Graham Houston on Froch-Kessler

It wasn't a case of Froch not being accurate, more that he wasn't busy at all. Thats why Froch lost the fight. I get the feeling that the body shots took allot out off him but also Froch ****ed up his game plan.

 

Kessler took some monster shots that were flush and Kessler was hurt. All credit to Kessler for staying up....why the hell didn't Froch KO him? Well Kessler has never been KO'd so you could equally ask that of any of Kessler's opponents. The only answer is that Kessler is one seriously tough and determined man. He wasn't KO'd by Calzaghe's body shots, he wasn't KO'd by Ward's head butts and he wasn't KO'd by Froch's right hands.

 

one point about Froch "lack" of accuracy. when he does miss he misses big so it makes him look bad. he takes risks going for his big shots.

a fighter may only land 10% of there shots but because there not taking massive risks or throwing hayemakers they don't look sloppy and as long as there moving forward its looks good to the judges and many watching.

if 50% of Frochs shots miss wide, and 50% land, you will know about every punch because the ones that land are big, and the ones that miss are big misses. its because he throws awkward shots from strange angles. he can afford to do it due to his long reach but because he doesn't have much hand speed it makes him look sloppy which is why some don't rate him and judges may not give him rounds.

Threethirteen you come across as a dick at times. You have your opinion of the fight; everyone who differs you label an idiot or nationalistic etc.

Most of what I've seen you write or agree with about the result - like a lot of people to be fair - has been simplistic and cliched. 'Kessler fought a winning type of fight' and the like. Meaningless.

 

Lol. No, but at least they should be the same weight on the night unlike Mayweather Marquez. They've both been fighting around this weight class since at least 2005. Seems fair enough to me.

EVERY time froch opened up,he shoulda coulda woulda beat him,unfortunatly he has got into a habit of fighting in little bursts.no good against anybody,nevermind robots(good one at that)
as for frochs defence,his hands are to low,but,he rides a lot of punchs he is caught with,which is a very good defence,knowing when a punch is coming,moving your head slightly to take away the sting,but it never looks good to
a judge,becouse like a lot on here,it looks like he is being hit hard

People, especially those overly influenced by the commentary get too preoccupied by Froch's style. The received wisdom is that Froch must keep his hands up to improve his defence and that gets mentioned every fight.

Because he doesn't do that the view is that he is moreorless defenceless, The Ring preview of the fight said that if I remember right. He ain't PBF, but his reactions aren't that bad and he uses his height to sway away from shots and does block others with a hand up not much different to Haye, and people don't go on and on about his defence.

His stuttering offence on Saturday and inability to maintain pressure when Kessler when he was clearly hurt and struggling is another matter of course.

that was a comeback fight. name another where he has faced a smaller guy, i can name plenty where he has faced bigger guys

 

Kessler usually is more accurate but the plan seemed to be to show Froch a lot of aggression and make him think twice about attacking too much himself.It worked well as Froch spent most of the night going backwards.There were a couple of times we saw a glimpse of the old Kessler but full credit to Froch he survived a few hard minutes and pushed Kessler right to the end.
