Smutt I had him when he fought Diamond Dale Westerman in Brisbane. He fought a great fight that night. Good listener. Trained him in Auckland.
Contendo, I think Josey will atest, not all SKY Friday night fights are top quality in the UK and they pay top dollar for the SKY subscription. Some of the SKY cards are only comperable to our Fox Shows of which Grange put a superb one on earlier this month It really is hit and miss but we do get some decent fights if one of our lads are going for British , Commonwealth or European honours these level of fights are great value, i don't know the exact price of Sky Sports these days but its well worth a Tenner of any boxing fans money , in an ideal world it would all be free on ITV but then we would have to listen Duke McKenzie all night which can only be described a mind numbing .
I hope Pradeep enjoyed it..I definetly did. I have never been one to suffer from bullying etc but im also not one to try make myself feel big at the expense of a person like those two ****wits did with Pradeep.. He was obviously a fragile bloke and those two ****wits rode him for it..He was getting abused for wanting to fight a bloke who he HATED and had dramas with(jungle boy) ASAP...I didnt get it.. Hamdan showed his true colours in the contender series and i hope Junior sends him brutally back to working 9 to 5 shovelling ****.
I agree Josey. Same here with at least two Fox shows I can recall previously having IBO 'World' Titles. We get plenty of Fox shows here for good regional titles, shame there couldn't be more Commonwealth honours between the Aussies and the Poms contested. Top scraps! All I was trying to do is keep some perspective on it that Fox shows are consistently pretty good, same as SKY, but certainly on both I have seen some average ones!
SKY have boxing almost if not every Friday night in UK........ Couldn't say the same for FOX. Overall the cards in UK are much better. Of course we have 3 or 4 great nights especially this one coming up in June, but 3 or 4 in a year is not nearly enough for the fans
Beaver - The UK off memory has approx. 67 million people at last count. Australia has 22 million! I think it's fair to say that the volume of money in the UK through SKY support more consistency and number of shows. It's much cheaper to call on UK fighters over there as there's more of them (larger pool), and also Europeans if required. Our fighter quality here is just as good, yet our pool is much, much smaller to draw from and then costly when having to get in outside fighters. Beave, I think if you saw what it takes cost wise to put a show on, you may reconsider the 'not nearly enough for the fans' comment as it's a costly, costly exercise to put a show on and more importantly, make a proper return/profit on it in order to keep aiming up and doing more shows.
I can see your problem being geographical Contendo i bet it costs you a heap to get a fighter down under from the UK for example , but im right alongside you in your desire to see the Commonwealth title reinstated as a top title , we have some outstanding prospects holding onto these titles and when these titles held more acclaim it seemed Aussie boxing was all the better for it. .
Josey, we are flying out a well performed Mexican for my fighter Billy Dib in next bout on June 2nd and I can assure you when you add purse, meal allowance, travel for his team and accommodation, it definitely ain't cheap! There's also the UK Pound vs. Aussie Dollar situation. It ain't cheap to bring a Pom here as your show budget's can be cactus when trying to make the figures work for all. Travel beats you also as most of the time, the fighter can't be assed to want to come 'all the way' down under for a purse they deem not worth the effort. We had brief talks awhile back to fight for the Commonwealth title vs. John Simpson and maybe it may bear fruit in the future. We'll see what happens.
Balmain, that was a good fight between Kariuki and Westerman. I thought Dale probably came in 2-3 kilos heavier then he should have but that doesnt take anything away from the way Peter dismantled him
I really thought Peter would of gone on a lot further than he has. Until now I feel he has been badly advised. Lets hope Fidel and Lincoln can steer him into some big fights. If he can make middleweight without draining himself I think the doors might open for him. Daniel wont be easy but Peter is gifted.
Contendo How is Dibb maturing ? I saw that fight he had with the Jap fella and to be honest mate i thought it was a disgrace however i can also see it was six of one and half a dozen of the other as the Jap wasn't without fault in the whole affair (or the ref upon reflection ) , my biggest worry for your man is he won't grow up and realise his undoubted potential . is he trotting on with any improvement in this regard ? Talented kid without question and could go a long way @ world class level imho .
Billy's going along well Josey. Superboxer was a unfortunate night and now best put behind. You are 100% right when you say the Jap and his team weren't without fault either. He's gone four for four since and just taking a nice, quiet approach to things and as I said, coming along nicely. Two from two already this year both by 6th rd KO. With the ratings update released earlier this week, Billy now sit's at No.4 on the IBF Featherweight ratings so he's well in the mix to get a shot at the right time. I've got five bouts planned for him between now and January so he'll be a busy lad and all with good quality opponents and when the time's right, we'll take our opportunity when it presents. I'd love him to have a crack at your two fella's - John Simpson or Martin Lindsay and we'll see what there about. Should make for some great scraps.
Yes i see him progress and congratulations on the rating improvement now a Dibb v Simpson fight would be an all out war i reckon from what ive seen of the two of them . :bbb
Agree with you on this one Ashley. It seems a long time since I was excited by the whole card rather than a fight or two. each fight in itself is worthy of something. the sheer volume of quality boxers suggest to me that Grange are willing to pt on a decent show. I hope it is financialliy rewarding for them cos it would, I imagine, be an expensive card to put on. This is definitely the type of card that should enthuse all boxing fans. Can't wait
