Dempsey and Hearns deserve mention here as well. Though Hearns was unable to stop Hagler and Leonard but he still did a good amount of damage to both, plus some of his other excellent knockouts. Dempsey over Willard for him.
Interesting topic. Bob Foster has some scalps on his resume of guys not easy to stop like Tiger and Hank. Plus, a ton of tough hombre type victims as well like Finnegin and numerous others. Like Mendoza stated, in recent times Vitali is as good as anyone; Donald/Purritty/Bean/Johnson. Sanders was not an easy guy to stop/obed sullivan was a durable type as was Mahone at the time vitali fought them. Billups and Ribalta certainly know how to hang in fights. Come to think of it, I can't think of many guys that could've absorbed some of those big shots Hoffman took in there. The problem was the licking the guy took caused major deterioration & he was never very good afterwards. Come to think of it, Wlad isn't too bad either; Byrd/Mercer/Schulz/Brewster. And durable types like Mccline/bigfoot martin/barrett/etc.
i saw that vitali-hoffmann fight once...how that went the distance ill never know because hoffmann was reeling at the final bell
Tommy Hearns - knocking out Pipino Cuevas and Roberto Duran, two iron chins, takes the cake. Andy Ganigan - knocking out Sean O'Grady who had a terrific chin, but not after that. Also, Ganigan decked the rock jawed Alexis Arguello. Scartissue
Forgot to mention the man with the most frightening power. Carlos Hernandez of Venezuela. Think about this: Paolo Rosi was only stopped on cuts in his career until KO'd in the 1st by Hernandez. Teo Cruz was only stopped twice in his career, once on cuts the other by KO to Hernandez. Bunny Grant was stopped twice in 72 bouts. Once at the end of his career (corner retirement) the other by KO to Hernandez. Also dropped the rock chinned Eddie Perkins, Jose Napoles and Nicolino Locche in losing efforts, not to forget he broke Davey Moore's jaw. Scartissue
There weren't that many granite chins 2 smash in neither era , especially in a single weight class in a single era 4 1 2 even get a chance 2 try it .
Olivares stopped Ramirez with a body shot tho...But there is no denying that his power was very scary.
Joe Frazier 1 of only 2 men to stop Chavalo, Stopped Quarry twice, Dropped Ali, once technically but really twice
The far and away winner here is Joe Louis nobody cracked as many elite level chins as him -First and last person to legit stop James Braddock -First and last person to deck and stop Tony Galento (had over 100 bouts) -First and last person to have Max Baer counted out -First and last person to stop ultra durable Uzcudun -First to stop Arturo Godoy etc.
