A French silent film star is the third greatest African fighter, Frank? Is that where we're at, right now? I'd have to check Boxrec.
I always liked Botha. It was pretty funny watching him chase sonny bill Williams around the ring and he was in his late 40s by then. I think they even shortened the fight mid fight as it was going so bad for sbw.
About Samuel Peter. He would go to Wednesday Bible studies at Oakey Blvd. I went up to him and I didn’t know who he was. He said he was Sam Peter!! I was ecstatic. so we’re hanging out in the foyer area. And I asked him what was it like to get knocked out. he said your blood leaves your legs to go to your head which would explain the spaghettis feet of fighters. Very down to earth and humble guy.
Another guy that I have seen mentioned yet was Kassim Ouma. He had a somewhat short prime but was an explosive fighter that had one hell of a life.
Ouma finished with a boxing record or 26-18, that's wild considering he was pretty good and a former world champion at his peak.
Not Boxing but MMA and I believe Du Plesis will become Heavyweight Champion today after he defeats Strickland. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I will be. I love Strickland.
Yeah, he is the perfect example of a fighter fighting for too long. In his prime he was a staple of ESPN Friday night fights and one of my favorites. Undersized volume punchers like him typically don't have a long prime and his career echos that thought. Hopefully he doesn't suffer long term for fighting too long. He lost nine fights in a row at the end of his career which is just crazy that he was allowed to continue. His career is very similar to another brave former world champ, Leon Spinks. Their final records are almost identical.
Forgot about Ouma. Had to go back and look through his Boxrec page, and his title run was a little longer than I remember it being. Got me to wondering where he fits among the top 4 fighters out of Uganda, which, not necessarily in this order, would be: Boza-Edwards, Mugabi, Kalule, and Ouma. Always would have had Boza-Edwards & Mugabi at 1 & 2 off the top of my head, but maybe Mugabi belongs at #4 after taking a closer look. Mugabi's best win was, who? James Green? Curtis Parker? Always saw Mugabi as better than Ouma, but it's hard to tell by looking at their resumes.
Some great names thrown out. Don’t forget Ajose Olusegun, Kid Akeem Anifowoshe, David Poison Kotey amongst others. Shout out to Derrick “Del Boy” Chisora.
