read quotes from Tunney, Tyson, Sharkey, etc.

    Example:

In a 1952 interview with ‘Look’ magazine, Gene spoke of Dempsey thus: “Jack Dempsey, I’m convinced, was our greatest heavyweight champion. In his prime, when he knocked out Jess Willard to win the title in 1919, he would have taken the four leading heavyweights of today – Jersey Joe Walcott, Rocky Marciano, Harry (Kid) Matthews and Ezzard Charles – and flattened them all in one night.

“These four men are honest, earnest, capable professionals. If they are not touched with ring genius, neither are they stumblebums. So I do not mean to deprecate them when I say Dempsey would have levelled them all in the same evening as follows: Matthews, two rounds. Charles, two rounds. Walcott, five rounds. Marciano, one round.

This is one of the most laughable, hilarious quotes ever taken by the old timers. This is the kind of thing why you can't take old timers seriousely. This is laughable.

Matthews I can agree being taken out in 2 rounds...but the rest?

He wouldnt have been able to hit Walcott or Charles in the ass with a handful of salt, and Marciano would be there tooth and nail til the end of the scheduled distance.

Anyone can get ko'd in 1 round, ANYONE, if enough of the right punches land. However against the best boxers this is usually very unlikely but not impossible if there's enough speed, skill, power.

But fighters of the moment are nearly never held in the same esteem of fighters of yesteryear. Even Duran wasn't held in as high esteem immediately post-Leonard as the great lightweights of yesteryear. This was as a whole simply a case of underrating current elite as usually happens

Dempsey would not have beating Charles, Walcott, Marciano in 1 day, one right after the other.

Hell I dont think Ali or Louis or even Tyson could pull that feat off.

Reading the witness accounts is always great. Excellent stuff.

On another topic, are great deal is said by Darcy opponents who praised him more emphatically.

Tunney and Dempsey were friends, and ofcourse he is going to say stuff like this. its ridicolous and ofcourse its impossible
