All due respect to the author and his use of the word "perfidious" in lieu of deceitful or "shady ..." this fight was a veritable "Gong Show" on wheels ... In Floyd's defense, he looked great and then suffered an obviously intentional headbutt (the third in a series, according to Mayweather ...) Floyd's obviously pissed, and suddenly Ortiz is apologizing repeatedly like he just farted at a funeral ... As the fighters are set to resume, Mayweather had to be wondering if/when/how Victor was gonna get back to boxing and decided that he'd rather not find out the hard way ... I dunno, but I can't imagine that either camp is satisfied with any of this ... This content is protected
And he called "time in." Hence, the fight was going on. Dempsey would have done the same thing. And so would many other ATGs. Not only that, Dempsey fouled the guy, and THEN hit him when he wasn't looking. lol
This is lost on all the haters. Floyd doesn't have to wait and see how long Ortiz was going to apologize... Knock his punk ass out for that bull****.
I was actually surprised it took him so long to throw those shots. It looked like he was about to throw a few seconds sooner, but pulled back, and touched Ortiz on both shoulders, reset....and then FINALLY, did what was obviously the next appropriate thing to do. PUNCH! What the hell was there to discuss?
Again the main issue here, as you mentioned, that on Dempsey's the fight was fluid and no stoppage. As of last night the ref stopped the fight, it's just a question of the continuity, now it is legal but still a sucker punch. More like sportsmanship thing. But then this is boxing and no sportsmanship is required, just can't figure out why it's a sport in the first place. Don't worry lil floyd is and always be a beloved figure.
Sportsmanship went out the window when Ortiz decided to intentionally headbutt Mayweather on numerous occasions. Somebody cheap shots you multiple times, and you are supposed to be a gentleman? Get the **** outta here!
There is PLENTY of time for sportsmanship before and after the fight. That 48 minutes or so in between, is called a FIGHT. A fighter's life is at stake during that time. Hell, the word's even in your name....what the ****?
Yeah, and it's crazy how polarized everyone seems when it comes to Mayweather ... I do wish Floyd would've considered a different approach in the post-match though, maybe acknowledging the frustration of not knowing what to do in the heat of the fight and fresh off of the foul ... In the end, Floyd could have admitted that self-preservation mode took over and Mayweather did what boxers do, for better or worse ... This content is protected
