Weren't a lot of those fights (at least the Tszyu fight) due to programming politics (HBO and Showtime)?

At least Floyd has a legitimate case that Baldomir and Judah were #1 and 2/3 respectively when he moved up, even if it was mostly a freak.

A good boxer that could have acheived more is definately Hatton , but his lack of top coaching - I think Graham got him very fit , but did he really teach anything? A Jab for instance. And of course keeping off the booze and food binges .

Hatton could have been a top 5 140lbs of all time , now I have him just inside the top 15.

Agreed - Joe never did make big money fighting in the UK, compared to what Jones was making at the time.

The guys Popkins listed, I don't think it was all down to Mayweather that they didn't happen...but he clearly could have tried harder for said bouts, and he could have fought each and every one of the guys listed on at least one occasion.

For example, Cotto. Mayweather wanted Cotto at 140lbs, but Arum didn't believe he was ready. After Mayweather beat Hatton, instead of retiring...the Cotto v Mayweather hype was building, and that would have been perfect.

I knew he was unavailable, but thanks for clearing that up, I thought it was the Collins fight that had been booked with Sky. Cheers man

That's not the same as actually fighting and beating them himself, and you know it.

Should Thomas Hearns not have bothered fighting Roberto Duran, since Tommy had already beaten Benitez and Benitez had already beaten Duran?

Tommy's legacy would sure be poorer if he had shared your and Floyd's infantile mentality.

Meldrick Taylor is a tremendous shout for this thread. When I watch him against Buddy McGirt and Julio Cesar Chavez, I am blown away by how good he was. He could've (and should've) been one of the best lww's ever. Although it gave us one of the most epic fights of the era, I feel pretty bitter he met a destroyer like Chavez when he did. Chavez's brilliance robbed us of a long career of Taylor blitzing opponents.

If fighting better opponents means you acheive more, win or lose, then every single boxer in the world could have acheived more.
