When it's discussion about top 10 heavyweights Evander Holyfield usually is not on list.Question is why?He was great Heavyweight,he never ducked anyone,he is the only 4-time World Heavyweight champion,he had great wins vs George Foreman,James Douglas,Riddick Bowe,Mike Tyson. He had close second fight with Lewis,he get robbed vs Valuev...He was warrior that never gave up and had great boxing ability. And many people doesn't think that he is all time great. In my opinion when he was in his prime he would be tough fight for any heavyweight champion.Visit my blog

http://bigpunchers.blogspot.com/

for great articles, boxing videos and video announce.

I think it has a lot to do with just how sporadic he was. He is truly a great fighter considering he was certainly quite small at the beginning of his heavyweight stint. None the less you do have to consider that he lost to the likes of Moorer, some would argue that he lost all three Bowe fights, then he has a loss to Lewis. While he was certainly past it come the Toney and Ruiz fights those losses take some shine off for me (at least the Ruiz loss does, not so much the Toney loss).

Great fighter who defeated some great fighters across two weights but I can see reason to leave him out of a top ten when you look at his competition, for the reasons stated above.

He's in my top 10. No denying he was an ATG. Sure he was inconsistent and had some losses but that's what happens when you regularly face the best available. Evander fought everyone, Tyson, Bowe and Lewis, no other top heavy did the same during his era. Some fighters cherry pick their opposition to protect their 0, Holyfield can never be accused of that.

Even in his defeats Evander Holyfield was great, even now at his old age.

Would a 44-46 year old Mike Tyson..? beat Valuev..? No.

A 36 year old Mike Tyson could'nt even cope with D level fighters. What Evander Holyfield has did in his old age, should add to my legacy in my opinion.

I rate him in the top - 5 heavyweights of all-time, and i would never put Mike Tyson above him.

People bang on about Bernard Hopkins, Evander Holyfield is a small heavyweight is even more advance in age than Bernard Hopkins. He has survived, in the baddest mother ****ing division of all-time for over two decades.

And if people are really honest with themselves, nobody has made a mug out of him. No other heavyweight even to this day has ever made a mug out of Evander Holyfield. I could see him even now facing Vitali and Wladimir Kiltscko, David Haye........

And he may be beaten, but i don't think any of these fighters would blast him out or beat him down into submission.

Holyfield should of fought the Kiltschko's when he was 44/45, people must understand. When he fought James Toney, and also in his early 40's his shoulder injury bothered him allot also he was suffering with other issue's.

I always remember the moment when Larry Merchant, during the Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfeild rematch, it was at the start of round 11.

And George Foreman, Larry Merchant, and Jim Lampley where all going back and fourth. And then suddenly, something George Foreman says suddenly......."Hits Larry Merchant hard"......and you can tell he is taken back by it.

He just stopped commentating, and it must of all just suddenly hit him what Evander Holyfield has achieved and how he has survived in the heavyweight division!!!!

    And he just kepted saying....

"What a fighter, what a fighter"

It all just suddenly hit him..!! realisation, that Evander Holyfeild is of the likes we will never see again!!!!!

At the 48min mark of this video!!! i always remember that.

SOME people dont rrealise that a few losses means **** all

Lennox gets this mannificent ranking but u can bet if he fought who Evander fought an when he fought them he would have some more losses also

because most people only know the holyfield they have seen of the last 8 or so years.....they have no clue how great he was by watching youtube videos....in one of the best fights ever, he went toe to toe with michael dokes in an absolute SLUGFEST...some magazines had that over hagler-hearns for fight of the decade...then you have some dumbass on these boards who is 20 years old chalk it up to dokes being a bum....its laughable the dummies on this board

Holyfield is one of my all-time favorite fighters. When I was in high school (90-94) he was my guy. With no physical advantages, he fought a great trilogy with Bowe (who I think gives Wlad fits) and the best of his era (which is greater than this era). His skills get overlooked due to his tremendous heart and small stature.

holyfield had beat everyman he ever faced up until he was 36 years old. all time great period. he should have retired after he koed michael moore in there rematch at 36 and would have defeated everyman he ever faced. lewis would have been crushed by the evander that beat tyson and earlier theres no denying that he had so much more punch output back then or the one that fought bowe.

I can't really argue with someone having Holyfield in their top 10 all time heavies.

Dude's heart alone was good enough to give him a atg argument :yep
