The Bloody Battle of Bayamon Arguello vs Escalera I Seen it mentioned a few times...but for the most part this is largely ignored, while being one of the greatest battles ever...and it's sequal could also be included!
Again, I didn't pick any Saad fights because his wars aren't overlooked. If any of them are it's the Mwale fight. Conteh I is one of my all time favourite fights. Kates is just a ridiculous fight, with both men detaching the other from their senses at some point.
I don't think anybody can top this one...James Pipps vs. Carmelo Negron. A 10 round draw that saw both men get 60 day medical suspensions. A very early Holyfield fight- his first or his seventh- was on the undercard. Last time I checked it wasn't on youtube.
Many of the exciting John Ruiz fights are being overlooked. For the clinching cognoscenti, Ruiz fights are summa cum laude. One sees every type of clinch, from the octopus clutch to the elephant trunk neck grip to the let me call you sweetheart hug, and with many subtle variations, sometimes in a single round. Of course, modern out for blood fans are not as appreciative of artitistic clinching as they should be, so Ruiz rarely got the credit he merited. But he was certainly the "prima clincherino assoluta" and without peer.
Boza-Edwards Vs Guy Villagus (This Fight seemed to Finish Guy ?) Frank Fletcher Vs Norberto Sabeter (Clint Jackson and Others) Harold Shadow KNight Vs Rocky Lockridge (Always Absorbing) Bennie Briscoe Vs Eugene Hart 1st (The War Draw) Mark Rowe Vs Tom the bomb Bethea 1st (Visitor Tom wins again - Fight 11 not bad either)
New York, New York, United States Troy Darrell W Pedro Estrada TKO 7 10 This fight had a sick amount of action. The 2 of them were goin up and down like Otis elevators. Latter day Pete Mead vs DeJohn.
Trust me on this 1. Michael Ayers and Wayne Rigby. If it had have been 2 household names in the states they would still be talking bout this fight
i was there that night....not only was it an amazing fight...amazing.....but, the whole night was an amazing event.....it was a mixed card of amatuer and pro bouts, started early in the evening around 6.30 and some superb amatuer fights....and katie taylor fought too, and the reception she got from a full house that night just had to be seen. the best night at any live boxing event i was ever at.
