Good fight. By Kovalev. I liked how he boxed this time around more beautifully. He kept his jab volume up and made Alvarez respect him. I did say previously I thought Kovalev would win the rematch because I always felt that Alvarez moment against Kovalev was just a fluke . Like you guys say "well timed shot ". Well that's what Alvarez had one time shot at the right time against the right Kovalev. I felt Alvarez never belonged in the elite to begin with. If Alvarez goes on and fights Bivol or Gvozdyk and loses to them as well I will see Alvarez as just another Buster Douglas moment man. Say what you want get mad all you want (especially Kovalev haters ). Sidenote: Alvarez has a steel chin
he might have a steel chin but I can't remember a time that a good solid shot landed flush on alvarez it did in the first one. which was the difference not loading up on shots. but alvarez looked even worse than I thought I had it 116-112 Kovalev but alvarez had his chances to win more rounds and just waiting he could have jabbed he could have went to the body. Jabs were effective... body shots were. just alvarez couldn't do it. no third match please
That's my point a bunch of people in this forum were hyping up Alvarez Because of his special moment against Kovalev in the first fight. Past prime Kovalev beat Alvarez
I had it 119-109 Kovalev. it was a shut out really... the intrigue of this whole fight was if Kovalev was gonna gas out mid rounds like he did the first fight and against Ward.... thats it
Kovalev just seemed uninspired, uninterested in the first fight. Maybe even depressed. I had it 8-4 Kovalev.
Kovalev lulled his butt to sleep and danced him right into a loss. I know he must be feeling real stupid right about now because he knows he won't get a rubber match. As a matter of fact, Kovalev had him stuck on stupid so long that he was on the verge of knocking him out in the last round. He wondering how he got there, I'll tell you how he got there, low energy.
I think most people had it 116-112. maybe a 117-111 def not 115-113. I'm let down by alvarez he could have did so much more. the thing is kovalev STILL didn't look that good... and alvarez lost clearly.
I haven't seen the fight yet, but just a random observation: it always strikes me as interesting when someone says that their favored fighter lost by a fluke or lucky punch, but then when he wins the rematch it proves he was superior. No such excuses for the non-favored fighter when he loses.
Lol Kovalev is not even close to being my favorite fighter. My true favorite fighter of all time is Golovkin himself although I don't tell anyone if not I'll be labeled a crazy ggg fanboy
Alvarez isn't really a puncher, but he fell into the puncher's trap tonight. He was expecting Kovalev to either crack when he landed, or to gas late, and fought a sloppy, complacent fight as a result.
One aspect of Kovalev's fight that stood out for me this time was how disciplined he was. Few months ago he'd have gone for the KO in the last round. l;ast night instead he stuck to him game plan till the last second. Excellent skills btw and well done! Cudos to Barry also for taking him back to the basics.
GGG is quite clearly one of the best 160 fighters of all time and its cemented him by neutral observers as a top 5 middle ever, for some (me lol) he can battle the elite at 160 ever and win, I have him no 1 prime ! He had everything but backing !
