Sands continued a MURDEROUS assault, but Olson shockingly weathered it; rocking Sands with two left hooks, and landing several more good ones along the way. Olson. 9. WAR! TOTAL WAR! And a CRAZY CRAZY SLUGFEST! Though Sands was on defense, he held a slight edge, and outboxed Olson for the last minute of the round. Sands. 10. Another war, just like the last one. Sands came out super fast trying to end it, but Olson gradually swung the round to his own card, rocking an increasingly defense Sands in one great exchange after another. Olson. Verdict: One helluva fight. A real beast of a fight. It's an awful shame that the entire fight doesn't exist somewhere. I'd go to great lengths to get a hold of it. An undermentioned fight that everyone should see the highlights of!
Great to see Dave Sands. He dominated Olson. This was apparently an elimination bout for a shot at Sugar Ray, but Sands didn't get that shot. I looked up his record, and he was stopped a little over a month later by Yolande Pompey. That seems to have derailed the title shot. Olson got it and in 1952 gave Robinson a close fight. Too bad Sands didn't get a shot. A fight between Sands and Robinson would have been intriguing. Sands looks much quicker and better. A worthwhile bout just to watch him. Thanks for posting.
