A thread for naming a great fighter and then picking their greatest weakness. This can be a perceived technical weakness or something more cerebral. Example: Jose Napoles - getting cut.
Mando Ramos: Alcohol Drugs Late Nights Missed days from Gym Total lack of discipline Mixing with the wrong crowd.
Ruben Olivares and Roberto Duran's weaknesses are sometimes lack of dedication and being party animals.
Marvin Hagler could allow self-doubt to creep in and affect his performances. With more self-belief in himself and what he was doing he beats Vito in fight 1 even with the judges being what they were, comfortably beats Duran and beats Leonard. Strange because few fighters exuded more single-mindedness or clarity of purpose on the surface than Marvin but he was human and had his doubts after all, like every other man. That was the only real chink in his armour. I'm guessing that's what you're after @Jel rather than a more obvious trait like Hearns' chin or Pep's lack of true power.
Eduardo lausse: the man would load up on absolutely everything especially on his ****ing basuca of a left hook making him wilt in the later rounds. Michael Nunn: one of the finest boxers of the 90s, could litterly turn you inside outside out and humiliate you for fun (just ask Frank Tate). So how dose he fight to the best of his ability? Infight in round rounds he was winning and slug for no reason. Short answer trying to please fans.
Buddy McGirt's best punch was his left hook but he had recurring issues with the rotator cuff in the left arm. That must have taken a bit off his game. He fought with it in the first Whitaker fight and didn't lose that by too wide a stretch. How would Buddy have done with a healthy left arm, I wonder.
