Every truly great fighter who has fought enough bouts comes across an opponent who is a stylistic nightmare. They might have beaten them but anytime they met this opponent they were in for a rough night. This is their bogeyman. Can you think of some demonstrably great fighters and their bogeymen? I'll start off with an obvious one to make it clear what I'm talking about: Muhammad Ali's bogeyman was Ken Norton.
Ezzard Charles was Archie Moore's Michael Myers. They fought 3 times with Charles winning all 3 times, 2 by knockout.
Duane Bobick was always able to handle the other Minnesota heavyweight, Scott Ledoux. Frankie Randall was always going to be bad news for JC Chavez. Bramble was another guy that just did not suit Mancini. McCallum was not a guy that was going to show off the best abilities of Toney. Tarver was not a guy that was going to suit Roy Jones.
I am a believer that Holyfield was always going to be get the better of Tyson. Lewis too for that matter but Holyfield stands out.
That's what I think---Evander always handles him. Absorbs what he has to & takes him out to deep waters & drowns him. Tyson pulled out of that fight. Why didn't he fight anyway since he was going off to prison immediately after? Can you imagine the hoopla that would be there to this day accusing Holyfield of ducking if he had pulled out? It'd be there never was a rib injury & he was just afraid. Or he knew he was going to lose so he pulled out, etc. Actually, what I don't get concerning that----why is Tyson given a free pass -- directly to go and collect $200 for pulling out? Here was a chance to win the heavyweight title and he pulls out like 2 weeks before with a rib injury? Lots of guys go in w/ bad or bruised ribs. What you don't see is them cancelling the fight that far in advance. Like I said, things would be scrutinized a while lot different if it was Holyfield that did the pulling out under those same circumstances.
If you consider Mosley a great fighter, then his are Forrest and Wright, both would've beaten him every time (as they actually did)
