Name some of the relative handfull of greats of the past who were never
'owned"...that is, never took an ass whipping, or a ko of any kind throughout their career. They may have had losses, but only close, or competitive losses, that never involved getting a real beating.

I am not a great fan of Rocco Marciano , but i know even in his closest fights he was never nearly made to look foolish, he is often overhyped but was a tough man who gave his heart in all of his bouts and it was in an era when you had to be a killer to survive.

Walcott still in defeat did give Marciano a good whipping. So did Ezzard Charles for that matter.

Yes indeed they were very competetive fights, but never nearly ownership.. The Charles fight is one of my altime favourites, he was so close to giving Rocky his sole loss..

Yes , Marvin was incredible, he was only ever dropped on the odd occasion (Roldan once i can recall) That isi the way fighters earn the respect of others..... By sticking thier necks out and fighting everyone regardless of toughness.. The way a lot of Philly fighters were brought along...

Monroe vs hagler would probably count as an ass-whipping if accounts are accurate.

I guess it would help to differentiate between guys like Monzon, Marciano, Loi, etc.,...who really FOUGHT guys, from say,...Sven Ottke, who never was really whipped, but was protected, and never really fought the best.

Didn't Greb beat him quite badly in the fight he won of their meetings, though?

I read that Greb gave Tunney a good beating in their 1st fight, it made Tunney a better fighter but it still happened.

What about the obvious choice.... Sugar Ray Robinson... well, I suppose he lost quite a lot decisively when he was like 40-45 yrs old.

Rocky Marciano, Gene Tunney, Carlos Monzon, Diulio Loi, Eder Jofre, Marvin Hagler, Sal Sanchez,...I guess "not being owned" would include no stoppage defeats of any kind???
