Losing, even getting decked in a loss wouldnt be considered "getting owned" as long as it was competitive.

Russell Peltz called it an "ass whipping" and the Boxing News report's headline is: "New Look Monroe Hammers Hagler". So Marv doesn't quite qualify here for me (or Monzon if we count the early Cambeiro defeat).

Fighting Harada sure seem to OWN Jofre, mostly in the first fight.

It would be fair to have a more objective frame of reference for both Hagler and Monzon, before taking the word of a promoter like Peltz, who for various and sundry reasons, may have had an axe to grind against Hagler, or some pie-in-the-sky promotional scheme with Monroe. It may even be prudent to know if there was another account of the Hagler-Monroe fight to make sure there wasn't some limited spurt of action on Monroes part and not a comprehensive "all night long" whipping that he put on Marvin. Same with Monzon, who though he hit the deck 3 times in that loss to Cambiero, may have acquitted himself well and was competitive throughout the fight, even though coming out on the short end of the decision. I find it hard to believe that, with the exception of some highlight reel, isolated moments, that Monroe would just have his way with Hagler all fight long, and the same holds true for Monzon, though as sketchy and remote as fight accounts are down in Argentina in the 60's, we may never know about that one.

Every word I've ever read on Hagler-Monroe says he was well-beaten, every one. Boxing News is just about the most reliable source there is anyway and provided an in-depth fight report of the action that night, something no other major boxing publication bothered with. The Peltz quote was said to Marvin and his team when they asked for another fight in Philly after two losses, he told them "I know you were robbed against Watts but you got your ass kicked by Willie Monroe. This is your last chance, three strikes and you're out".

It's obviously something you want to believe. The only comments of the Monzon fight tell a tale of a very green fighter who was soundly beaten but not ready for the bigger stage. Call it a learning curve- for both fighters. Or a 'bad day at the office' even.

Perhaps, but you don't know this so therefore, surely, he can't qualify for this category? You'll have to change it to "never owned on film" or "never owned when near peak"
