Another decade is coming to a close (depressingly) and we've watched another generation of fighters come and - in some cases - go. Older vs more modern has been an ongoing debate on this forum for yonks and is mostly as bad as the poetry of Grunthos the Flatulent.

However, what I'm interested to know is how many truly great fighters have - in the eyes of yooz folks - plied the peak/prime of their trade from 2010 to the present day? I'll settle for near great or genuinely excellent at a push for flexibility's sake. You can give honourable mentions to fighters who you feel were great talents but didn't achieve tangible greatness for one reason or another. Injuries, inactivity, lack of opponents, issues outside the ring etc. Or even guys who you feel may go on in the next couple of years to cement a legacy. These things are usually better after the dust has settled a bit, but hey ho.

The fighters must have had their peak and/or bulk of their prime and majority of their body of work from 2010 onwards and not be of previous decades as a prime entity. Hence, the criteria discounts Pac, Mayweather, Wlad, Marquez, Hopkins etc.

How do we feel the depth compares to other decades? You can make a direct comparison if you like, fighter for fighter. Do a list or whatever. Separate tiers of greatness etc.

I'll list some names. Don't know if they're all correct.

    Roman Gonzalez
    Manny Pacquiao (resume enchanchment)
    Floyd Mayweather (massive enchanchment)
    Lomachenko (debatable)
    Naoya Inoue (very debatable)
    Nonito Donaire
Hozumi Hasegawa (major reinforcement i.e featherweight title, amazing really)
    Sergey Kovalev
    GGG (debatable)
    Canelo (debatable)
    Carl Froch (168)
    Andre Ward

    Will think some more later.

Tanaka and Kenshiro are well on their way next decade, along with some listed.

The year's almost up lads. Got any thoughts?

Canelo and Inoue's forthcoming performances are massive to cross this boundary.

For ATGs this decade, I'll state a few things first.

My criteria for ATGs are either Top 10 in the weight class I'd rank them in of top 100 pfp, using this list for pfp. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/the-greats.629638/page-6
I'm going to list fighters who's work this decade have made them ATGs.
So the guys I've got who've done this are

    Wlad, HW.
Usyk, Gassiev, Breidis, Adamek, Huck, Lebedev, CW.
    Ward, Froch, SMW.
    Canelo, JMW.
    Bradley, JWW.
    Rigo, SBW.
    Mayweather, Pacquiao, Top 100.

Without these criteria, I reckon that most people would call guys like Marquez, GGG, Lomachenko, Vitali and Gonzalez would've been ATGs too.

H2H I think that guys like Kovalev, Beterbiev, Loma, Fury and a few others do much better H2H than they'd otherwise rank.

    Truly great ??

Not many if you're talking about which of them will go down as ATG's in boxing history. Floyd and Pac are nailed on but I see they can't be included on the list. Andre Ward is the only one I can think of and even that's debatable.

Usyk is borderline as is Canelo unfortunately (don't think he really deserves it, too many questionable decisions and the schooling by an old Floyd is a factor as well). If Tyson Fury had beaten Wilder he would be borderline too or perhaps he already is, that victory over Wlad in his backyard was a big win.

Loma, Spence, Crawford, GGG, Inoue, Rigo all miss out for lack of notable wins.

I really feel like this last decade was stronger than the 2000s, and that's really as long as I've been watching boxing.

I think Ward and GGG have clearly entered the pantheon of all time greatness. For me, Kovalev cemented himself as an atg light heavyweight when he reclaimed the title from Alvarez, but I know that will be controversial for many on here.

I think Loma and Crawford will also establish themselves as atgs, but I think it won't happen before the end of the year. I expect Crawford to largely clean out welterweight, which will be the crowning achievement of his resume. But fights with Pacquiao, Spence, Thurman, Porter, Danny Garcia, will all take place over the next 3 years.

There are other guys out there who expect to possibly make that cut, but they have a lot more work ahead: Mikey Garcia, Beterbiev, and Usyk for example.
