I remember Witherspoon offering to fight Holyfield after a tv fight he had in 1989? Funny how it never happened.

So now Holyfield ducked him too, right? It seems someone only has to holler about about fighting someone and you think it is a major duckage.

Not a duck, just thought it was a big risk, little reward.

    OK, to answer the thread:

Jimmy Wilde - Not sure I'd classify any of the opponents he beat as great, but then again I don't feel comfortable saying this becuase I don't know much about the likes of Joe Symonds, Sid Smith, Joe Lynch, Tancy Lee, Memphis Pal Moore, Frankie Mason. Perhaps some of that lot were great.

Eder Jofre - Saldivar and Legra were both past their primes and I wouldn't say Medel qualifies as a great. Had Harada beating him twice too so no cigar there.

Julio Cesar Chavez - Not sure i'd classify Taylor as great, though he certainly looked great around the time he outboxed McGirt and Chavez. Wouldn't say Camacho or Lockridge were greats either, though they were exceptional fighters. A lot of good fighters to his name across the board though.

Carlos Zarate - Zarate beat Pintor imo, but I'd say Pintor fell just short of greatness. Zamora looked special for a short time too, but I don't think he was great, nor was Davilla.

Miguel Canto - Beat a lot of quality fighters like Betulio Gonzalez, Martin Vargas, Shoji Oguma, Susumu Hanagata, but I wouldn't say any of them were great.

Ruben Olivares - Lionel Rose, Chucho Castillo, Bobby Chacon, Art Hafey, Effren Torres, Jesus Pimentel, Jose Medel, Salvatore Burruni - a fantastic bundle, but no one I'd classify as great amongst em.

Manuel Ortiz - Wouldn't say there was a great amongst his list of victims, though I am ignorant as to a lot of the fighters he beat.

Felix Trinidad - I think he lost to DLH and Whitaker was pretty shot. Vargas was a great win, but Vargas ain't great.

Pascual Perez - No greats that I know of there, but again, I am ignorant as to a lot of guys that he fought.

Ricardo Lopez - Probably the worst resume of any great, but skills are way up there.

Eusebio Pedroza - Lockridge is probably the best opponent he beat, and i wouldn't say he's great.

Mike McCallum - Beat a hell of a lot of excellent fighters, but probably no great there - and I say that having him beating James Toney in their second fight. Toney is borderline though. One i'm unsure of.

Kostya Tszyu is another one that could be added, but I don't think I'd class him as a great. Borderline Perhaps....

And of course, last but not least, lil' Floyd :good

Am I being harsh? Should I grant him DLH? Surely not Ricky Hatton?:think

I myself would put KT as great, but each to their own on that one. Hmmmm on Floyd with DLH, Oscar is well aged but seemed to go ok in the fight. It's borderline maybe.

Kostya ain't great, I think he is overrated. Best wins are Zab Judah and Sharmba Mitchell.

Most post-60s greats fall into this category.

Fighters simply don't have enough fights, so it's difficult for more than one in a division to garner enough quality wins.

The Holyfield who foguth Lewis would not beat Witerpsoon at his best.
