here are a several fighters who i feel came at wrong time which denied them the credit that there skills and achievements deserved. some are much more unlucky than others:

    ken buchanan
    Estaban De Jesus
    Tomas Hearns
    Wilfred Benitez
    Charley Burley
    Vernon Forrest

It will suprise many people to see benitez and Hearns.

But i reckon if Hearns had not had the sole losses to Leonard and Hagler (or got revenge), many people would rate him much higher in the P4P lists than he is now. he would definitely come ahead of leonard and hagler

Benitez would be rated higher than pernell whitaker. He is denied a lot of credit because of the defeats to Leonard and Hearns

If vernon forrest had came along at the time of dlh, tito and quartey he would be a long reigning champion

Surely Roy Jones Jnr should top this list by some margin. Practically untouchable in his prime but with no one to really test him to the limit.

jones gets in a lot of p4p lists because of this problem. if he had a defeat in his prime, a lot of people would not rate him as highly as he was

David Haye ....if and when he does clean up the Heavyweight divison, 99% of them are bums anyways, so it wont mean all that much on an ATG scale of things

Wrong. There were plenty, he just didn´t fight them.

Yes he did. Have u heard of James Toney or Bernard Hopkins? He fought them and dominated them both. Two ATGs IMO.

Who was around in the 1990s that was better than those two?

    No-one.

Look into two threads in the classic forum, i had a discussion with Bokaj about those two. I donßt have much time k´now, perhaps i will later look after my posts there and copy them if you don´t want to look for yourself. But too keep it simple, neither Hopkins nor Toney were at their best in those fight while Jones was. Still, two very good wins but not as great as some prople think.

Name them, and I will give you a reason that is not Roy's fault. There are very few who he could have fought but chose other options.

I will give you a hand. Nunn.

I wouldnt consider him great but Oba Carr certainly had a tough time of it in his prime.

Ken Buchanan is definitely the top choice. He was a very talented fighter, and is considered great as he should be, but imagine what he would have been without Duran. DeJesus would present some problems, and they could have had a great series of fights, but I'd favor Buchanan. He would reign until Arguello came up, and he very well could have beaten Arguello too.

Also, guys who never got a shot like Burley, Langford, Holman Williams, Lloyd Marshall, Jimmy Bivins, etc would have won titles in a more recent era, and would likely be remembered as greater fighters.

    Larry Holmes.

It's taken many years for him to finally get the recognition he deserved. Even as recently as about 10-15 years ago it was pretty begrudging.

"vita" dejesus is the first name that comes to mind. he would have dominated that division in the 70s if not for the fact that he was there at the same time as the best 135 ever.
