Billy Graham.

He arguably beat Kid Gavilan once (some might say twice), Carmen Basilio twice and Joey Giardello three times, but didn't manage to find his way to a title.

Had he been around in today's environment I think he would beat everyone from 140 to 160, and that includes Floyd and Pac. He'd have shut out the guys fighting today (Cotto and Clottey) and given someone like Pavlik or Taylor a terrible schooling.

 

He would also terrible school paul williams too right and remain undefeated against everybody, cuz we know how much you love old fighters.

 

Graham would have no chance against Williams, he ain't no Carlos Quintana!

 

Paul Williams is no Eddie Thomas! Its funny how old timers are allowed to have loses and be forgiven, but once a new guy loses, he is shitted upon.

Billy Graham was clearly beaten by Tippy Larkin, but the new guys like Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, Manny pacquaio , they would have no chance in hell right because Tippy Larkin beats them all too right.

 

It's also funny how guys back in the day fought more than twice as often, against a deeper talent pool and against fighters that they often did not have footage of to prepare for beforehand.

I'm glad you didn't say Tony Pellone by the way, because I have footage of one of Graham's losses to Tony, and he was flat out robbed.

I do not know the circumstances of the loss to Thomas, but I would like to know something about it before I concede that the decision was fair, especially given that the fight was held in Thomas' backyard.

 

Yeah and if he was fighting in today's era, he would be fighting the same way and vice versa for the modern fighters.

 

Tippy Larkin is similar to who amongst them, since you've seen him fight?

I'll let you know though, that Tippy was one of the greatest boxers of his time, but he had a soft chin. Ray Arcel in the 80's said of him that he would still be champion to the day if he had a better chin. Ike Williams said he was the best boxer he ever fought and that even though he knocked him out, he was receiving a boxing lesson beforehand. Not bad praise for a guy that faced the boxers like Gavilan, Montgomery, Bolanos, Joyce etc.

Ahuh, and so the fact that so many fighters have sparkling records today as opposed to the past must be because they are better today right? Despite less participation in the sport nowadays and despite the fact that they have months at a time to prepare for who they fight and despite the fact that belts are splintered and they avoid unification fights like the plague.

 

Who is avoiding unification fights, Paul Williams, haha i dont think so. He wants to fight everybody cuz he knows he'll beat everybody. That doesnt even matter cuz no one takes those belts seriously,only the ring belt is what matters. Everyone knows Marquez is the man at lightweight, Pac is top dog at 140, Pavlik is the champ at 160.
