Duran quit vs Leonard and he wasnt´even hurt....
JC Superstar quit in his stool once.
Cotto vs Margo (Ok he´s not great yet, but he could)
    Oscar vs Pac
And there are lots of other examples...

This nonesense about "quitting means cowardice" or that it automatically makes greatness unreachable for fighters needs to stop.
Look at what not quitting did to the careers of Gerald McClellan, Fernando Vargas and a bunch of heavyweights from the 70s.
I would like to see how Arturo Gatti, Mickey Ward and Rafa Marquez are doin 10 years from now.

    Tszyu against Hatton

Fighters know when the fight is unwinnable for them. They simply make a choice to go out on their shield. When such big names have quit in years past it makes you wonder why more fighters don't use discretion. It's not like there's no precedent for quitting.

This is based on my post in the other thread. Cotto quit and I'm sorry but he will never be close to great because of it. I like cotto but he quit.

    :-(Quite ****in silly.:-(

If Duran can be considered an ATG after he ****in quit without even being hurt, how can you say that Cotto will never be great because of the fact that he quit after he absolutely could not go any further. He was fighting on heart alone after the 7th.

I wonder if these people who say Cotto is crap because he "quit" would look more positively on him had he not gotten up after the first knockdown?

I like the term "retired" that use to be used some time back.

Exactly right! It's just a bunch of tards that wanted to see an exhausted Cotto stand there and eat one more uppercut just to say he "didnt quit". He had nothing left to give and could barely stand.

Duran was already great before quitting the second Leonard fight, he hated Leonard with a passion. I read somewhere that Duran yelled at his own corner "i can't fight this ****** anymore".

Duran quit because he felt that Leonard stopped boxing and started running. What some of us may call "Ring Generalship" Duran called cowardice. In some ways my gut agrees with Duran and Leonard was a coward, but my brain says - Anything to win with in the rules, so its very debatable. In the end I dont blame Leonard for sticking and moving and I dont blame Duran for seeing him as a coward.

Tyson vs McBride was the worst id ever seen since I paid good money to go see that crap in person only for them to slow dance all night then McBride pushes Tyson down and Mike has to ask Joe Cortez to help him up before he quits in a fight he was ahead in.

it was Duran's way to believe that if somebody was'nt standing toe to toe than they were being a coward... Leonard won the fight his way and that's always commendable, that's boxing... in the end of it all though, I'll always put Duran ahead of Leonard as far as atg status is concerned. in other words, if someone quits in one fight, it doesn't take away what they did or will do in other fights. if Cotto comes back and does great things, than he is great.
