cmon man. Packey was already retired for this one as he hadnt fought in 2 years. Mike was drained down to 147 because Packey wouldnt fight him at MW. This was probably more of a 10 round exhibition tbh

Packey fought his entire career BOTH at LW and WW, btw.

Just for starters, His wins alone of Britton and Welsh topple this draw by a country mile

 

there was a little Canadian Fighter, a Top Contender named Vic Folly, who fought damn near everyone had an excellent record against the best & top fighters, but Folly also had 29 Draws, 29???

you do have to wonder how many of them might truly have been Win's for Vic, which of course may have changed everything and left the conversation to Folly's victory over so & so, whichever great that may have been.

 

I agree, from the rounds available on YouTube, Gibbons was edging the fight by my eye.

There are conflicting reports about the weight. Boxrec has the fight being contested at 153lbs. Gibbons was 155lbs in both his previous and next fights.

Whilst I don't disagree Gibbons should be favoured prime for prime (it's an ATG MW vs an ATG LW), it should be noted that McFarland had been out of the ring two years and didn’t appear in great physical condition relative to how he looked at his prime weight.

 

though you are absolutely right Greg, there are too many people that don't recognise such facts never mind account for them and worse other times they 'might' do for some and 'not' for others...

bottom line, all such facts matter equally and should be accounted for all fighters. Well noted Sir.

Not his best result obviously but I've always rated Tommy's performance in the rematch against Leonard rather highly. Like Leonard just beat Haggler and Tommy at that point in his career was considered a shot fighter with his performances against Barkley and Kinchen, so he was seen as a pretty easy win for Leonard. In the actual fight however, that couldn't be farther from the truth as Tommy not only stood his ground more against Leonard with learning to clinch when needed and fighting well in the inside, but he also dropped him twice while never going down himself when his chin was always viewed as his Achilles' heel. Had he been given the decision, that would have been a top five career win for Tommy imo.
