The fighters who rely on the jab least stylisticaly are pressure fighters. Even they will use it when it suits them. Jeffries went into the second Sharkey fight with his left prety much out of action and switched over to a southpaw stance in the later rounds to use his jab.
he did use a form of a jab more of a striaght hook . he used it against quarry. a thumb up striaght left followed with a left hook. in the olympics he didnt own that much of a left hook (which is amazing i feel) and used a right hand and a left hook to the body was all he owned
i wouldnt say great but josh clottey doesnt have a jab of note. very fast hands and a tight guard and a good counter puncher...yet his jab is very lax if not seen in the fight at all.
Every fighter uses the jab to a certain extend. I worked out with Regilio Tuur (former sfw champ) and he told me he used to flick the jab to snap the opponents head up a bit so that you could hit him right on the chin.
Joe Frazier had a very underrated jab. He used it very effectively. I doubt there's been a great fighter who never used the jab.
Yes. He always came in behind his jab. Stand in front of him and he will land. His hands always up high. Most of the punches he took were high on his head.
In the films I've seen of Dempsey, I don't recal seeing him throw a jab. He was a great counter-puncher, though.
