For the immediate future, yes. We're boxing fans. We let ourselves be ruled by our hearts and we're vulnerable to sentiment. In fact, I have said that being 'great' is more about H2H ability. Ricky may have been Britain's favourite ever fighter. Took thousands with him to Vegas. Got strangers who'd never watch a fight otherwise roaring his name in pubs. If he wasn't great, he had the X factor in spades and for mine, greatness needs a sprinkling of that magic. I get that the question is about technical ability. Was Ricky great? Maybe he's another case of the old axiom that he was just about as good a fighter as you can be without being great.
Yep. God love him, he and Marciano overcame the stumpy syndrome and worked around having to have a jab, and almost wound up with the exact same record for a time. That's what concussive power can do for a man. Jah bless.
Yes, he was a top 10 P4P guy for a while and was a two-division champion which included clearing out a very good 140 division. And he had a quality jab which he varied very nicely.
What I remember vividly …was both Floyd Mayweather Sr and Floyd Mayweather Jr …saying that if Ricky had used his jab …he wouldn’t have gotten knocked out by Manny Pacquiao…. But I’ll rewatch some of his fights ( in honor of him)
