Ahmet Oner. “ Gamboa is one of the five best fighters in the world right now and he is ready and willing to prove it in every single fight. He has beaten everybody who has crossed his way and he is not ducking anybody. Gamboa always wanted to fight Chris John, but he has avoided him constantly. He has always wanted to fight Juan Manuel Lopez, but he lost to a guy Gamboa had already beaten.”

According to Oner, Gamboa plans to fight his way through the divisions in order to get bigger fights...

“Right now there’s no one left to beat for Gamboa at 126. That’s why we are planning for him to move up in weight. It seems to be the next natural step for such a naturally gifted fighter like Gamboa. He wants the big fights and the big names, he wants to get to the point where Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather jr. are at the moment. To do so he needs to of course win, the big fights. I can easily imagine him fighting up to 140. We are certainly not looking past Daniel Ponce de Leon who is very dangerous. He might not be as fast as Gamboa but he is a very heavyhanded puncher with an excellent timing. This will surely be Gamboa’s toughest test so far as he can't make any mistakes or show any flaws. He has to be at his best in order to get past Ponce de Leon. " I would suggest that people like Amir Khan watch this fight closely because this is what might be coming for them.”

" There is a gigantic interest in a unique star like Gamboa and we have lots of options for the time after our contract expires. When the time comes I will sit down with my fighter and discuss what our next steps will be. Gamboa trusts me and I will always look for the best option for his development and his future. He is definitely an extraordinary talent and he deserves to be a superstar ".

Can Gamboa also blow away the competition up to 140 pounds? I think he can definitely blow away everyone up to 135 pounds but 140 is a bit too big for him. Gamboa is just 5'5 but then again Pac is just 5'6 and look at what he has done! ;)

if he can tighten up defense and clumsiness wise (hitting behind head when too excited in exchanges), he can do it

he has fought practically no one at 126. He should fight the winner of Lopez-Salido rematch if it's Lopez but there are the up and comers like Brooner, Russel and Mikey Garcia and eventually Donaire if he moves up. At 135 he gots KTFO by Rios.

But there are still plenty of fights at 126/130 I would like to see hi have first, if he could focus on that and maybe snatch a belt at 135 it would be very good imo.

Fought no one at 126? What about Barros, Salido, Solis? Those are three World Champions! Brooner= no challenge, Russell= the same and Garcia will also lose to El Ciclón. This is why they feel that he should move up. The winner of Salido-Lopez is nothing spectacular, Gamboa already beat Salido and Lopez is ham and cheese for him. :nut

Of course because Lomachenko is a Russian. :nut

You seem to forget who is the only Country that defeats the Russians in the amateurs, CUBA. ;)

just because you favour him to win doesnt mean he should move up, those are excellent wins if he can add them to his resume.
Donaire,lopez/salido,broner,russel are good wins to have, especially fi they get bigger in boxing.

Well, Gamboa may be 5'5 but he usually weighs around 146 at fight time. The weight should be ok but he is small. Now, Gamboa even though small ( like Roy Jones said ) is a terrific outside boxer and that's because of his Cuban amateur background. I believe that he should fight up to 135lbs, 140 remains to be seen.

Yes, but most of those other " Gamboas " are still trapped inside Cuba. :-(

Salido already got beat. Lopez got KTFO by Salido. Broner lost to Ponce by everyone's vote. Russell's a rookie who has beaten nobodies. Donaire is at 118 and should test himself at 122 first.
