I read the book recently and what striked me most about it was how dangerous this sport really is. How many guys who were directly or indirectly involved with the fighters in that book died or suffered brain damage? My respect for boxers went up a lot more after reading that book. And i seem to recall at least 2-3 fighters in that book saying that the worst part before a fight was walking into the arena. That's when they said they wanted to shell up and run away.
^ dunno, I think hand-held football (not the real one) such as NFL, rugby, rugby league, Aussie Rules etc. is pretty hazardous. I certainly wouldn't encourage of my (future) kids to take them up professionally. Paradox, thanks for posting this - always good to remind of us Mike's philosophical side behind that Baddest Man on the PLanet past.
I love Tyson, he really has a way with words weather its poetic like or its just pure hatred. sometimes i think what it would be like to have a few drinks with him and chat about his life and boxing then i think **** that, he is insane!!! nothing more than a partly tamed wrecking machine!!
That's the kind of attitude that used to make him flip..people thinking he was insane before they even got to know him. At this moment in his life he is a very humble peaceful man that looks back at his life with equally alot of pride and regret. I would love to have a drink with him, as he was and still is a hero of mine! Long Live Iron Mike! :bbb
I would say he does this more than once in a while. He might misuse a word every now and again, but the man is very deep and insightful. Especially when it comes to two things: Himself and boxing. He's very honest with both subjects.
The guy was completley insane!! If he wasnt a sporting icon you would say the same thing. The guy is a total street thug, ex drug dealer/Mugger/convicted ******. You just have to look at him from past interviews and see that evil in his eyes, the way he conducts himself towards women is disgraceful!! At this moment in his life yes he is very humble and content as he isnt powerful as he once was/ when he was heavyweight champion of the world/millionaire the world was his oyster now if he behaves like he used to he simply would get no air time at all. These days networks wont stand for people acting the way he used to. I too would look back at my life with deep regret if i had found religion and was a convicted ******!!!
''People fear what they don't understand, hate what they can't conquer, guess it's just the nature of man, became a monster'' - Nas Sums up how people have treated Mike his whole life I'm not justifying his actions and I do think he has at times acted disgracefully, but to say that he has evil in his eyes is just ignorant and wrong. People are quick to judge and never take time to question why certain individuals act out. And it's got nothing to do with the fact the he was the Heavyweight Champion, the same can be said with your average teen, hoodied up on the street, lashing out against a world that hasn't given him a chance. They just need love, and to dismiss these people as Evil is unfair.
do heavyweights suffer more brain injuries than lighter divisions? i only ask as all our brains are basically the same and id imagine heavyweights take more punishment to the head?
Truth be told, they're not doing it solely to entertain the fans. They're doing it mainly for the fame and fortune. Its not like they're volunteering to fight.
