    Klitschko-Haye agreement

Wladimir says July 2 date is agreed on

    By Alexey “Oscar” Potapov

IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KOs) and WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KOs) have reached a preliminary agreement for a unification clash on July 2. The fight will take place in England or Germany. Wladimir spoke Fightnews.com about the news in Kiev, Ukraine during a master-class for talented children participating in the “Sports Ukraine Build Together” program.

“We have never so far not entered into negotiations with the team of Haye. David for several years has connected his name with Klitschko. This is what he gets. He is an excellent promoter, but in the ring you’ll see what kind of fighter he is. The contract is not signed yet, but we already have something important – a preliminary agreement on July 2. By the end of 2011, all the titles in the heavyweight divison will be mine and Vitali’s. The fight will be in Europe. We are both Europeans and I think that there will be more interest in the Klitschko-Haye in Europe than in the U.S.A. We will divide the money fifty-fifty.”

On April 30th, Wladimir Klitschko will defend against Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KOs) in Mannheim, Germany at the SAP-Arena.

I guess 'preliminary agreement' is better than disagreement.

This is a fight the heavy division desperately needs!

I'm actually not that excited about Haye v Klit but it's the best heavyweight fight out there at the moment i guess.

I think Haye and Povetkin and a rematch with Mormeck are far more entertaining fights, but it's a fight the division needs, none the less.

When BOTH men are in the ring is when I'll believe the fight is on...

We have had this before remember? Press Conferences, it was going to be at Chelsea's ground - Stamford Bridge, the whole 9yards, then the 'Setanta' back injury ruled Haye out previously.

We've then been subjected to 2yrs of 'he said/she said' from both sides so again, whilst agreeing with you all that it's a bout that needs to be made for the good of the HW division, I won't be holding my breath until the opening bell sounds.

Perhaps someone could put a double-header together for us:

    Klit vs Haye
    PBF vs PacMan

    Klitschko-Haye close

“It looks better than ever before,” Haye co-promoter Kalle Sauerland told SPOX. “Both sides are showing interest, the talks are in full swing.” Both Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye have recently confirmed that a July 2 clash is a possibility. “When an agreement seemed impossible, the pressure on both Haye and Klitschko increased. The fans, the TV networks, everyone wants to see the fight. So we’ve sat ourselves at the table.”

    Klitschko-Chisora off

IBF, IBO, WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has to cancel his title defense against British and Commonwealth titleholder Dereck Chisora. The bout was supposed to take place on April 30 in the SAP Arena Mannheim, Germany. The reason is the not yet fully healed injury Klitschko suffered last December. Originally the fight against Chisora was scheduled for December 11, 2010. A few days before the bout, three-time champion Klitschko suffered a torn abdominal muscle. After cancelling the fight, it was rescheduled for April 30, 2011. Since the recovery process is not yet in a stage that Klitschko can start training again, the fight has to be called off again.

Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, the doctor in charge, is of the opinion that an intensive training period in preparation for a fight in April cannot be realized. “Considering the current clinical picture, it is difficult to predict a precise time of rehabilitation. The start of a training camp at this time for a fight in April would be too much of a high risk,” explains Müller-Wohlfahrt.

Wladimir Klitschko: “I am very sorry about cancelling the fight – especially for all fans in the already sold-out SAP arena in Mannheim. I have already fought there three times, 2006 I became World Champion in this arena. However, I am optimistic that soon we’ll have an event in Mannheim.”
