Wlad had to have another matchup arranged before the deadline which was Jan 7th, otherwise he would have to go through with the Chisora fight.
It was written into the contract & well publicized in many different outlets including boxing scene, SKY Sports & ESPN.
Thats why the rush to get the Haye fight signed or otherwise wait until after April 30th.

I agree tho regarding Haye pulling out due to Setanta going bust.

I'm aware he needed a fight signed up, but it's obvious his real intentions lay with Del Boy. Money wise, Haye brings a lot more to the table than Klitschko does. In some ways, I'm amazed his team agree to go 50/50 on the splits. All the money in the proposed fight comes from Haye.

I agree regarding the money issue...Haye brings alot more UK money than Wlad does in Germany.
Im rather upset as this bout needed to happen for boxing...hope its still possible in mid or late 2011 but its becoming more & more myth like Pacman-Floyd.

But only if he fights one of the Klitschko's. How much did Haye earn fighting Ruiz, Barratt, Fraudley etc etc ?

Without a shadow of a doubt he'd be earning enough not to go hungry, considering his fights were on Sky Box Office (Barrett was on Setanta).

Nobody pays to watch either of the Klitschko's, even in Australia these days, which is amazing considering the standard of our coverage.

I do know about the Setanta situation Ipp. All I'm getting across is that Mr Haye and Mr Booth haven't exactly jumped out of their skin to make the fight. It hasn't exactly been top priority for Haye has it?

Must be just the pure sceptic in me then Ippy to not totally believe Haye first up....

The following is an extract taken from a thread on the Brit Forum. The heading link's to it's origination on BoxRec.

For the record, I can't stand the Klitchko's and actually blame them for a lot of the way the H/W division has become. Haye has his major faults also so both are no 'lilly whites', however I've posted this below for some perspective on honest Mr Booth and Mr Haye's projection of this farce.

I've highlighted some points below in red that I thought required some discussion. From my perspective, it comes across as Klit is happy to fight on July 2nd, in addition to April 30th. Haye is happy for July 2nd and both have entered into a 'tentative agreement', however it is Booth who won't allow Klit to fight Chisora on April 30th.

Klit's happy to have Haye take a tune-up fight, so where lies the problem? Haye of course doesn't have to take a tune-up, that's his call.

I would have thought it's potentially in Haye and Booth's best interest to have Klit potentially a bit stiff and sore following Chisora? 8 weeks is a general training camp regardless and if Klit is happy to do it, how should this be of hinderance to Haye?

It just appears that Haye, and probably more so Booth in this situation is cutting his nose off to spite his face. If they really wanted it, they'd have agreed to it.

I'm sure we'd all agree, this isn't as black and white as it all appears. My scepticism of Haye is huge and to be frank, he's just a UK version of Mundine. Talks big like our Pioneer, but as his H/W career shows, still isn't anywhere near 'legacy' proportions he suggests. Anyone recall his recent 'massive' world-title bout with Audley the Fraudley!

Klitschko's manager blames Sky Sports for Haye fight breakdown

In a surprising and dreadfully disappointing throw of the heavyweight dice, Wladmir Klitschko will now face Derek Chisora on April 30th rather than David Haye. Klitschko's manager Bernd Boente revealed that IBF/WBO champion Klitschko and WBA rival Haye had been close to agreeing the April date, but negotiations broke down at the final hurdle - and the German has laid the blame at the feet of Sky Sports.

The match with Chisora will take place at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, where it was originally scheduled for December 11th. Klitschko withdrew in fight week citing an abdominal injury.

From what can currently be gleaned from a variety of sources, Boente is reported to have given the following interpretation of events:
    - negotiations between representatives of Haye and Klitschko had been ongoing for three weeks.

    - Haye had agreed to fight in Germany and agreed to an even revenue split

    - neutral officials had been agreed

    - a date of April 30 was fine for RTL but Sky Sports was not willing to do two pay-per-views in the same month; they already have WBA light-welter boss Amir Khan v TBA lined up for April 16th

    - Sky Sports was unwilling to move it to accommodate Haye v Klitschko and confirmed this to Boente this morning

    - there were no dates in May or June that worked for both networks

    - the first available date that works for both networks and a potential venue is July 2

    This content is protected

    - Klitschko has not fought since the knockout of Samuel Peter on September 11 and refused to wait nine months before taking another fight

    - Klitschko was contractually bound to a 30-day window to reschedule the fight with Chisora or move forward with another opponent. The deadline was tomorrow

    - Boente informed Chisora's representatives that they would proceed under the terms of their originally scheduled showdown

    - If and when Haye v Klitschko does happen, Boente would prefer to work with Showtime rather than HBO

An angry Adam Booth told Sky Sports News: "There were lots of people that know Wladimir really didn't want this fight yet. It's a shame. It's embarrassing for boxing that the unification fight isn't going to happen now because David's bent over backwards. We've conceded to every single ridiculous demand they made.

"From the start they said 50-50. David said fine, even though potentially we're putting in the pot three or four times more than they're putting into the pot because of pay-per-view Sky box office. David still said 'let's get the fight done 50-50'.

"They said the fight had to be on their German broadcaster even though our German broadcaster was prepared to pay more. We said fine. They said 'we're not coming to England for the fight'. David said 'fine, I'll go to Germany'. They said Wladimir has to be in the red corner, Wladimir has to come in second, Wladimir's name has to be first on the poster and all these other ridiculous, egotistical things, and David said 'fine, have it, just get him in the ring with me'.

"The last thing was, here is the date we now have, we said yes, Sky have approved that date and they turn round and say 'we're now doing Chisora'.
"Wladimir should feel ashamed of himself."

Although this turn of events will undoubtedly disappoint and even anger the vast majority of boxing fans, it's obviously great for big Derek.

"This news is a fantastic late Christmas present," said Chisora. "I always believed that I would fight Klitschko, and my faith has been repaid.

"I was a bit worried that he might try and fight an easier touch, but I think I've earned my opportunity. I was gutted when Wladimir pulled out of our fight just a couple of days beforehand. But now I've got another chance to take his titles away.

"He's a great world champion, but his time at the top is well and truly up."

The Klits bore the **** out of me.

Seriously, how often do either of them actually participate in an all-star fight?

They just seem to go through the motions, fighting a never-ending line up of mediocre opponents.

Klit fans will tell you it's because they are so good they make their opponents look bad, but that's crap. They're the mediocre kings of a lacklustre division.

they had 3 years to arrange a fight with Valuev, and a massive amount of people would have loved to see a Klit send the gorilla to the canvas. Why did they never make that fight....

I'm not defending the Klit's Hmmm, but at the end of the day, this discussion is about Haye vs. Klit's. (Or should I say 'not'!)

they are as bad as each other, it is what boxing needs and tyson ducked no one, nor did lewis, and this is why boxing is ****ed.

Why take a pointless fight against a thoroughly undeserving challenger that has the potential to spoil the biggest fight the division has seen in years? All it takes is a cut or a broken hand to ensure everything starts all over again. Madness.

Exactly, and considering how injury prone Wlad seems to be OUTSIDE the ring, why take any chances?
