Shane is actually getting his biggest payday against Mayweather. The same would be the case with Pacquiao. Mayweather will get paid more against Shane, Pac, and I think even Marquez than he did against Oscar.

it was at first, but then marquez was hyped up to be some kind of monster, because pacquiao went up and destroyed hatton and de la hoya and marquez beat up pac....

    Oscar's top PPV buys:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. 2.15 million buys
    Felix Trinidad 1.4 million buys
    Bernard Hopkins 1 million buys
    Shane Mosley II 950,000 buys
    Fernando Vargas 935,000 buys
    Ricardo Mayorga 935,000 buys
    Pernell Whitaker 720,000 buys

    Mayweather's top PPV buys:

Oscar De La Hoya 2.15 million buys
Juan Manual Marquez 1 million or 1.1 million, depending on the site checked.
Ricky Hatton 915,000 buys (pre fight expectations were for 1.5 million)

    http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=ki-mayhatton112807

Zab Judah 350,000-374,000 buys, depending on the site checked.
    Arturo Gatti 340,000 buys.
    Carlos Baldomir 325,000 buys

So, what was that you were saying again? Something about Floyd's opponents having trouble drawing PPV buys without him?

De La Hoya is the only proven PPV draw that Mayweather has fought. You're welcome to make an argument for any of the other guys that Floyd fought.

Good post, and DLH did all those numbers without the help of 24/7 except when he fought Floyd,i think that if there was a 24/7 for the DLH-Tito that fight would hold the record of ppv buys.

Floyd is still fighting and DLH is done.

Floyd's PPV numbers will look pretty damn good after he fights Mosley and Pacquiao. They will look something like this:

    May-Pac - 2.8MM
    May-DLH - 2.15MM
    May-Mosley - 1.7MM
    May-Marquez - 1.1MM
    May-Hatton - 900MM

    What will you say then?

We're talking about common opponents here. Mosley did 600k and 900k against Oscar. Think May/Mosley will top that? Think May/Pac will top Pac/Oscar? Thought so....

  9. nazim, i usually like the **** you speak cause it seems real. But I sense a little bit of hate. when you start talking about how other guys did this on their ring entrance and did that then you start sounding like a hater. Maybe you should start talking about bernards ***** ass comin to the ring in an executioner mask. Tyson and the other old school fighters didn't do that.

Well Pac has gotten alot bigger since his fight with Oscar and you know that so why even try and compare. 24/7 has alot to do with the increased number it attracts the casual or even nonboxing fans.

I agree with the poster that said if they had 24/7 with Oscar and Tito that would have had more numbers than May and ODLH.

Also Mosley is known by everyone now, even though he is older he is more known than he was 10 years ago.

I'm not getting your point. Mayweather helped create 24/7, so give credit where credit is due. Mosley not being as popular 10yrs ago is his own fault, not Mayweather's. Pac had better numbers than Mayweather b4 either fought Oscar, so that argument doesn't hold weight.

Only one fact: Hatton did his best numbers with May, so did JMM, so did Oscar, so will Mosley, and so will Pac. True story.

yes but its not because of mayweather, its because both Mosely and Pac ESTABLISHED THEMSELVES by fighting and beating Oscar on PPV. Prior to that they werent PPV draws so of course they are bigger names now and as such will help Floyd Draw bigger revenues. Lets not pretend that you could put Floyd in the ring with just anyone and do massive numbers like DLH and Tyson did. Besides, Im not even sure I buy the numbers that are thrown out there about Floyd. This is a guy who says he got paid 12 million dollars to fight Baldomir and 30 million to fight Marquez. Bull****. He got less than 4 mil to fight Baldomir and got a gaurantee of 10mil to fight Marquez with a percentage of PPV revenue which means his paycheck didnt come anywhere near $30 mil. In fact Floyd isnt even in the top three when career PPV revenue is considered.

I'm not arguing that Oscar isn't the bigger career attraction. Heck, even Pac has better career PPV buys. But as of right now, May is bank. You can't deny it.

And to says so easily that "its not because of mayweather", makes no sense. Mayweather is the constant. Whether those other guys are established or not, they don't generate higher numbers fighting anyone else in the sport than they would fighting Mayweather. That's a fact.

As it stands right now Mayweather and Pac are the PPV draws in boxing. You put these two together expect the record held by mayweather and oscar to be shattered.
