Wald is an ATG heavyweight and so is his Brother.....some fans don't want to admit it but they've clearly dominated their division for years......and it's not even up for debate. Weak era? Yes.....however....they are doing exactly what a great is supposed to do in a weak era.
How about use defensive tactics like bobbing and weaving. Use waist movements. Parry shots........ Use defensive tactics other than getting himself into a clinch every few seconds. Instead we see s big strong mother****er use soley the clinch as his defense, and this he does against inferior opposition which makes watching him fight even more frustrating.
He didn't always fight like that. Look at his early fights......very exciting. ...action-packed and very fluid.....but that style changed after Emanuel. An offensive fighter is a fighter who is more at risk.....Plain and simple. Wald got starched and needed to alter his style to something more measured and cautious to help protect his chin. But.........it worked. Floyd catches the same kind of criticism for his overly cautious style and his holding. But it works......
Wlad did everything he had to do to make a great statement on HBO. Pulev was better than I thought. He had Wlad backing up with both left jabs and fast hard rights. He kind of beat up Wlad for the first minute of the first round. He is as his fans said a tough guy with a mean streak, check out those shots to the back of Wlad's head. But, as always Wlad made adjustments and used a left hook from distance to really rock Pulev's world and started to take over the fight. Wlad is a great professional fighter that makes adjustments when faced with a difficult opponent with a unique style. He did it in the first Thompson fight, the Sam Peter fight and now in the Pulev fight. This is why he rivals Larry Holmes, Ali, and Joe Louis in title defenses. Great effort by Pulev.
Nothing great about it when you're facing robots who can't move out of the way of a punch. You guys must be new to boxing.
shame about his era, but I do admit Wlad is an ATG HW. Not so sure about h2h with other ATG HW's though...
Oh yeah, I agree. Wlad at 6 foot 7 inches, 245lbs. of ripped muscle is going to have a tough time with 198lb. 6 footers like Joe Louis and 190lb. 5 foot 10 inch midgets like Marciano or 212lb. 6 foot 3 inch boxers with zero punching power like Ali. Ali often mocked his lack of punching power. Head to head Wlad is a beast historically. Deal with it.
Wlad showed his destroyer mode in grand fashion against an undefeated, big, legit contender. If HBO weren't pleased with that, to hell with em.
i've never really ever watched a wlad fight before, but my god he should of be warned and maybe even a point deduction in the first round for excessive clinching. i can stand a lil bit of clinching but this is just outright cheating
