Gary Shaw Plans to work very hard to bring back Ali Funeka in the near future. Funeka gave an excellent display of himself in the md loss to Nate Campbell. Because Campbell was unable to make weight for the Funeka fight, the IBF's Version of the lightweight title was deemed vacant.

Shaw & Funeka's handlers are hoping that the IBF will place their fighter in a very high position within the new rankings, making him eligible to fight for the vacant title. There is certainly going to be a strong case made that Funeka lost a very close contest to a fighter who was above the lightweight limit.

"hopefully he is ranked real high. The judges scored it the way they scored and we are going to move forward. Ali Funeka is a very exciting fighter. We are going to work hard on getting him right back. We'll see what happens with the IBF and take it from there" Shaw Said.

I hope this work outs for Funeka man... you can only hope the best for a guy who poured out everything and cried after the fight for losing... the guy definitely deserves the best and i hope he gets put in a good situation

Funeka vs winner of Diaz-Katsidis for the vacant IBF title.

    You heard it hear first.

Unless Diaz is supposed to be fighting somebody else in that lightweight tourney?

    What about the WBC/WBO rankings?

If Peterson beats Cherry will they step it up for him to fight Funeka for a vacant title? Or will Juan Diaz fight Funeka if he beats JMM?

Shame Prescott isn't ranked higher, two freakishly large LW's with big punches fighting each other, damn it would be exciting.

Wish Prescott's situation gets sorted out soon and he fights someone else other than a blown up super-bantam (apparently his next fight?!?!?!?) He sure looks exciting, and although the only other fight he looked ****, he was fighting a first class runner.

Well I believe they are scheduled to fight? I thought it would be Lamont at 140 but I was told by another poster it was Anthony at 135.

Cheery has pop at LW, this'll be a good test for Anthony Peterson. He's quite a big, rangy LW himself from what I've seen, wonder if he can take shots from the likes of Cherry and Funeka???

Alright fair enough. Only heard about that lightweight tourney today, didn't know if it was official.

Julio Diaz was supposed to be fighting Michael Katsidis.

Katsidis is more of a clubber, Nate is a sharp puncher with good inside work as well.

Katsidis mainly uses his face as a defence, so it would be a case of could Katsidis wade through Funeka's right hand as he tries to close the gap and fire away. My guess is yes, in spurts.

It's a case who goes down first? I say Katsidis, beaten and bloody, hurts Funeka with a body shot and stops him in the corner. Funeka isn't badly hurt, but stunned nonetheless and the referee has to wave it off.

Intriguing fight, with a win over Chavez Katsidis could put himself in a good position to fight Funeka in the 2nd half of the year.

Katsidis wouldn't hit him flush regularly. Funeka might have to get up off the canvas but he'd give Katsidis a sustained beating and stop him within 8 rounds. I'm not entirely convinced Katsidis hits harder than Nate anyway, maybe he does but not a lot harder.
