Just listened to a great podcast on fixed fights in boxing, which features Leon Spinks. Go to snapjudgement.org and look for the show called "The Fix Is In". You'll see a photo of Leon. Will love to hear your opinions on it.
I have a problem believing a four year old kid openly smoked cigars at the fights. But yes, very interesting interview. I think a fix and "matchmaking" are closely related but completely different. Like the guy says there is a process required to get all new fighters as unscathed as possible through the ranks and into the money fights. Building a name. And there is a reason why management of prospects deliberately seek the same guys who lasted one round with a debutant for their fighter. It's because they require the same result for the kid they are funding. There is a distance from A to B that any fighter has to be navigated through before it's worth real serious competition so absolutely there is a market for part time guys who go through the motions, know their limits, won't be a hero. It's not fixing fights though. Nothing insults a knowledgeable fight audience than a fixed fight. That is completely different. However, It's almost acceptable to see a prospect in his first handfull of fights get almost no resistance against guys who know they are over matched. Always has been. But It's not the same as a fixed fight.
