The story I heard was that the ref asked Cobb if he could see him ok and Cobb replied... "Yeah, you're the white guy; it's the black guy I'm worried about." or something like that.

But I know the quote you mean - there is something out there about someone saying "Hey, you're white, can you give me a hand here?" Probably another reference to this fight. Hell, they're all probably apochryphal and made up after the fact. But fun.
