I'm finally back guys! It feels great to be back in my official capacity. The break was nice, but there's no reason it needs to be any longer. Let's get right to the first order of business: Carter vs. Bassett.

    1. Carter came out fast, driving Bassett into the ropes. While on the ropes, the two took turns attacking each other. It was Carter that made the fight in the final minute, bullying Bassett, and hurting him with a left-right combination. Carter.
    2. While Carter definitely outpunched Bassett in this heated session, Bassett replied every so often with some good flurries. Carter.
    3. The frantic pace continued. During the middle of one of their exchanges, a right hand from Bassett hurt Bassett, via delayed reaction. Bassett just turned groggy all the sudden. However, Bassett recovered to trade with Carter on an even basis the rest of the round. Excellent round. Even
    4. Now Bassett was missing more, due to his damaged left eye, but still fighting courageously. Carter.
    5. While Carter backs up, Bassett lands the right again and again. The first round that I gave to Bassett. Bassett.
    6. This was a great back-and-forth at first. At first Bassett was the one in trouble, but like so often in this fight, Bassett managed to turn the tables on Carter, battling his way back to an even round. Even.
    7. Initially this one the appearance of being the downhill side of the fight, but a big battle erupted near the end, with Bassett's mouthpiece being knocked out. Carter.
    8. Just like in the 7th, it started out slowly, but Bassett backed Carter off in one of the few occasions of the fight, snapping home two good hooks. The remainder of the round was very good. Bassett landed a solid right hand before right before the bell. Bassett
    9. Carter inflicted a whipping on Bassett at the end of the round. Carter.
    10. The closing round was an awesome, gutsy, mindless barroom brawl. Carter injured Bassett badly in the end, but Bassett never stopped fighting his heart out. Great end to a great fight. Carter.

    Final score: 6-2-2 for Carter.

    Verdict: EPIC, underrated fight.

William, your score was great. Right in line with the judges. I, on the otherhand, went against the grain and loved Bassett's workrate. I scored this fight back in January and this is what I wrote:

After recently watching the title fight between Jimmy Carter and Art Aragon I was looking to see what else was out there on Carter and I found this gem. The first fight in '51 between Jimmy Carter and Percy Bassett. This is simply a slam-bang 10 rounder from St. Nick's Arena.

    Round 1: Carter
    Round 2: Carter
    Round 3: Carter
    Round 4: Bassett
    Round 5: Bassett
    Round 6: Even
    Round 7: Carter
    Round 8: Bassett
    Round 9: Bassett
    Round 10: Bassett

Total: 5-4-1 Bassett (actual scores: all three officials scored it 6-3-1 for Carter)

Man, the thump from these sizzling shots were exquisite to my ears. Just a terrific 10 rounder. It slowed up a bit in the 8th and 9th but they let it rip in the 10th. I was perplexed by the commentator when he said at the beginning of the 10th how Carter could just coast as he has this sown up. Man, I had it dead even at that point. I obviously wasn't on the same page as the officials because I felt what Bassett lacked in power he made up for with a tremendous heart and workrate. You guys really need to check this one out if you want to enjoy a good slugfest.

While I don't understand how you came up with the score you did, I respect it. Bassett, as well as Carter kept an unbelievable pace.

Jimmy Carter is one of my favorite fighters of that era.
