Great underappreciated fighters

Eddie Perkins doesn't get talked about a lot on the forum. He was a great fighter.

 

Another underappreciated fighter who isn't mentioned enough: Ismael Laguna. Great slick stylist.

Also Mark Johnson, Reggie Johnson, and Stevie Johnston. Sweet southpaws they were.

 

Sumbu Kalambey. Marlon Starling. Not known outside outside of hard core fans

 

Good adds and I meant to include Yarosz when I posted earlier. Definitely worthy of a shout here.

 

Harold Johnson isn’t talked about enough. Extremely skilled. Would have liked to have seen him fight Liston.

 

Crisanto Espana a Venezuelan boxer brought over to Belfast by Barney Eastwood won the WBA Welterweight championship of the world 1n 1992 beating Meldrick Taylor(i was there).Only ever beaten once but i never see his name mentioned on here, he deserves better than that

Jimmy Young undoubtedly would have been the most "boring" HW champion of all time in terms of style. (No power, no flash, just a clever technician who frustrated his opponents. Not an easy style to "sell" LOL!!)

Loved this guy but he was gone so quickly.

 

Despite my incessant cheerleading, the greatness of Henry Maske is never appropriately reflected on these boards.

 

You knew Harold Johnson? That’s awesome. Please any stories would be great. I’ve read that Charles didn’t think much of Liston either but to be fair fingers when they start out aren’t close to the same as their prime.
