I WAS JUST READING THE OCTOBER 1980 ISSUE IF INTERNATIONAL BOXING. THE COVER ARTICLE OF COURSE IS THE COVERAGE OF THE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY, DURAN DECS LEONARD. OTHER ARTICLES WRTE HAMSHO S VICTORY OVER SCYPION AND SANCHEZ RETIRING LITTLE RED. THE ARTICLE I READ TODAY WAS OF JIM WATTS GREAT BEATING OF BIG-MOUTHED HOWARD DAVIS. DAVIS ARRIVED IN BRITAIN RUNNING HIS BIG COCKY MOUTH AND JIM TOOK HIM TO SCHOOL. AFTER READING, I GOT THE DVD OUT AND REWATCHED THE FIGHT. THIS IS ONE OF THE GREAT VICTORIES IN LIGHTWEIGHT HISTORY I THINK AND GREAT TO SEE A BIG-MOUTHED GOLDEN BOY TAUGHT A LESSON BY A CHAMPION. MUCH LIKE DURAN DID TO LEO LATER IN THE MONTH. HERE'S TO JIM WATT. AN EXCELLENT CHAMPION AND GREAT MAN.
Definitely was a great win for Jim. Jim was a very experienced and effective pro, no frills southpaw. Even still nobody here expected him to win the fight with all the high hopes there were of Howard.
Davis went over there so smug and disparaging Jim. Loved it when he lost. Davis had a real unlikable personality. Davis was taught the difference between a great amateur and a pro champ.
Duva error in judgement. They should have never accepted the bout to take place there. They should have insisted on making Watt be the road warrior. It was likely to be a distance bout going in and it's stupid and careless to not get the homecourt advantage.
Not Duva, Coooneys crew rappppasapppaport and jones. And they had no choice Watt was Champion and said we fight here.
