Who would you say is the greater fighter overall? Both fighters seem to have a somewhat similar beginning where they were slowly being built up as the next Mexican star, had a brief setback with their loss, and later became much better fighters after suffering a defeat. Both also had a legendary rivalry (GGG, Morales).

Canelo, 4 weight world champion, undisputed champion at 168
Wins over: GGG, Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders, Erislandy Lara, Sergey Kovalev, Daniel Jacobs, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan

MAB, 3 weight world champion, unified champion at 130
Wins over: Erik Morales, Naseem Hamed, Johnny Tapia, Paulie Ayala, Kennedy McKinney, Rocky Juarez, Kevin Kelley

Definitely Canelo but Canelo had so many haters everyone will probably say Barrera.

Barrera has the more memorable fights and his win over Hamed, was much more impressive and emphatic than Canelo's draw and win over Golovkin. In which many people thought Canelo should of atleast lost 1 of those fights, plus the Morales vs Barrera trilogy was much better Canelo vs Golovkin trilogy.

But overall Canelo probably does have a bit more filler to his record, so he probably edges this debate overall.

Barrera but Canelo is only 32 years old, he can largely catch up with him.

Barrera, because the fighters he beat were better than those Canelo beat. I also think Barrera was the far superior fighter.

Barrera was a badass. The combinations he threw were awesome. Perhaps not as good defensively as Canelo but I honestly think he was the more technically skilled fighter overall.

    Barrera.

He was better h2h and with his resume.

He fought a bunch of killers. Canelo hasn't even dominated any division He has fought in.

Canelo hands down. Mab lost to jones 2x a guy he had no business losing to. And at no point was he p4p #1 and seen as the best boxer in the sport like Canelo was.

Different weight classes. I don't see any MWs fighting like a young Barrera

To be honest there’s not much shame losing to Junior Jones. The guy was a physical freak and talented offensive fighter who was pegged as the smaller version Hearns at the time. By the time he fought Barrera he had just made a comeback from his 2 losses when he defeated HOF fighter Orlando Canizales. It wasn’t like Junior Jones was a scrub when Barrera fought him, he was still a good fighter. Jones just had a style that was “poison” for Barrera.

Jones was a good fighter not a great one. He's not even hof level let alone an atg. If you're better than canelo then you have to beat Jones. I would equate jones to the level of Lara for Canelo, who was a bad styles match up that canelo won close.
