If say Marquez. But I haven't see the Rose fight or Herrera rematch, so depending on what I'd score them it could be different.

Well, Castillo has a KO over the (arguably) best Bantam ever. Both him and Marwuex have spotty careers.

H2H he is definitely greater than Marquez IMO.

Yes but Marquez had a Cold KO of a near prime Manny Pacquiao, who I hold higher than Olivares
Not to mention I have him winning 2 of there decisions as well

Its a long, long time since I saw Chucho against Olivares, without re-watching him I'm going for Marquez who was a very well rounded fighter.

Chucho was the more talented and complete fighter fighter, if not by a huge amount, and the superior h2h force imo. Looked more adaptable, seasoned and comfortable against a wider range of styles at the elite level and imo beat better competition outside of Marquez's success against Pac. I thought he beat Herrera in the rematch and he had wins over Olivares, Herrera, Medel, Caraballo, Cruz, Esparza, Tellez, Armstrong, Pimentel, Nakane, Lara etc. That's deep. A lot of people thought he edged another atg in Rose (I had it a draw) and he could have been a two time champion or reigned for longer. He fell off the cliff quicker than Marquez and had a tougher start to his career but in a tough era packed full of top fighters.

Marquez has the longevity and weight climbing very significantly in his favour as well probably getting the better of his nemesis over the series. I do think the peak Olivares was at least a clear shade above Pacquiao though and Castillo does have that win over him, and there is the question of PEDs helping Marquez. His record looks better on paper than Castillos but Chucho didn't really struggle stylisti cally in his prime with guys like Salido, John, Norwood, Wheeler etc. Only the very good Raul Cruz managed to narrowly upset him and that loss was avenged.

Both guys were similar in that they both had to chop their ways to the top through other contenders without huge support in comparison to their contemporaries and they both had crucial close decisions go against them against other great fighters.

Most people would probably rank Marquez higher, he regularly crops up highly in top ten lists while Castillo gets underrated in comparison and doesn't get the same fanfare that Marquez has attained, albeit belatedly and deservedly. I've never tried to rank them tbh. I've long thought that Chucho, Medel and Herrera were at least as good as Marquez, Barrera and Morales. Their eras were tougher and deeper and they suffered for it where Barrera and Morales were looked after in comparison with the benefit of modern schedules and matchmaking and paths laid to the top for them outside their fights with Pac, each other, Marquez and Hamed. They were still excellent/ great fighters though. Marquez by modern standards at least had a far tougher path to the top.

I joined the forum for posts like this. Great work Tin_Ribs. Herrera is an underrated beast aswell. Wins over Olivares, Castillo and Borkhorsor!

Thanks rough. Herrera also beat Martinez, Anaya, Famoso Gomez, Tellez, and only lost to the brilliantly gifted but soft-chinned Pinder by a knats knacker. He was probably very lucky though to get the nod over Borkhorsor, he looked like Quasimodo by the final bell in that fight. Outstanding fighter though, a superb punch-threader.

Marquez is a level above Castillo. Chucho was fantastic and carved out a nice career but Marquez is one of the top 5 Mexican boxers of all-time both from a talent and skill standpoint and career accomplishments standpoint too.

He means that Herrera was an awesome combination puncher and shot picker. Fluid, consistent and accurate.

Yeah, that mostly. Rangy accurate punchers who throw fluid, straight shots with excellent technique and timing throught that very small optimum trajectory remind me of threading through the eye of a needle.
