In terms of achievements and H2H who would you say was the greater fighter overall? Who do you think had the better, more dominant boxing career? Both guys were undisputed in their weight class, as well as having avenged all their losses.

Carlos Monzon: Valdez x2, Mundine, Napoles, Briscoe, Griffith x2, Benvenuti x2

Lennox Lewis: Ruddock, Bruno, Morrison, Golota, Mercer, Briggs, Holyfield x2, Tua, Tyson, Vitali

    I'd say Monzon.

    Reasons:

    1) MW > HW in terms of difficulty. The pool of talent is much deeper and there's a limit to the sheer size advantage a fighter can have there
    2) Barring a few very early hiccups, Monzon was unrivalled in his career. He never had the McCall and Rahman question marks
    3) Monzon was consistent. Lewis could blow hot and cold.

Monzon. Hr didn't get starched twice in his prime.

Stopping the 2 fighters in the rematch more than makes up for that though.

Lennox Lewis. He bossed what I consider the best era of HWs. Lennox boxed at world level for 11 years, compared to Monzon's 7 years. Lennox also beat his heir apparent aged 37. That would be a bit like Monzon keeping going until 1980 and beating Hagler. His skillset is also much more varied than Monzon's

He is making a good case for LL, much of which I agree with.

Please elaborate. I don't think there was anything wrong with the comparison that I made between 2 ATGs. Both have a case, honestly..

No, it really doesn't. A truly great fighter doesn't let it happen to begin with. Not twice, anyway.

Very hard question. They are comparable... LL for me. Monzon was more dominant, but I think Lewis has a bit better average opposition (And I always rate Holyfield very highly)

Monzon & its not even close. A whole different level.
Geez, Lewis got 1 punched twice by advanced club fighters.

You can't possibly tell me that the only reason he's being held back is because he got stopped. He got KO'd, then went on to KO the other guy in return, twice. Am I missing something? What's the issue and why would it not make him a truly great fighter if he avenged his only losses? It just means that Monzon has a sturdier chin.
Are you also gonna tell me that Joe Louis isn't a truly great fighter because he got starched by Max Schmeling?
