Saad Muhammad. Just think he was better! Might have lost to Mustafa, but once he changed his style and became more all-action he beat Conteh. Took a lot more than Mustafa (who I rate as more durable) but Mustapha lost to Galindez and Spinks.

Mind you, Muhammad was stopped a couple of times.....they both seemed to falter against the best guys they faced, Saad by K.O (as he always went for it) so I actually think they're very, very close......

I went for Saad out of personal bias as they're so hard to split (IMO)

Dinamita, would you agree that Qawi was the best out of those three and Spinks surpassed them all? That's my thought on that period of LHW's anyways.

I most certainly agree that Spinks surpassed them all, only Foster rivals him at lhw over the past 40 years, maybe longer. Yeah, Qawi probably does have the edge over the Muhammads. For such a small guy to go on and be a solid cruiserweight champ, that takes some serious attributes.

Thank you for your analysis amigo, good stuff and much appreciated. Right now I am watching footage of both, and I want to consider that along with what I've read and what this thread throws up before I align myself with either man. One thing is for sure though - these are two seriously brave and exciting fighters! :good

Saad Muhammad might be THE most exciting fighter for me to watch.....had an iron chin but that didn't matter when he walked into so much....doesn't seem great at cutting off the ring, but with his precision, handspeed and power he didn't need to be....he either caught up with his man or got sparked, simple as

Saad Muhammad was more exciting and had a longer reign as champion, but Eddie Mustafa was the better fighter, and not just on the basis of his decision victory over Saad. His actual peak and time in the sunshine as far as his abilities was concerned, he exceeded Saad by far. What with more dedication, motivation, inspiration, whatever-ation, which for some reason was lacking in him, he would have been a super-champion, but alas, he failed to keep the "flame" (get it?) going and failed to fulfill his potential.

I voted for Saad Muhammed. I just think he accomplished more in his reign and had more impact on the sport. However, i do think at their respective bests head to head, that Mustafa would outpoint him. Mustafa just wasn't at his very best to warrant the higher rating pound for pound.

Mustafa was better ... however he nlacked Saad's heart and the prime, title winning Saad may have beaten him ... If Mustafa had Saads heart he would have been an all time great ..

Mustafa should've been better, but he didn't live up to his full potential. As is, I think Saad deserves to be rated higher, because he achieved/proved so much more.

Saad Muhammad.Though Mustafa had the greater skill set, he didn't accomplish as much as Saad did.
