Why wouldn't Castillo get in? He was the best lightweight of his era IMO

    Should have beat Mayweather.
    Beat Casamayor
    Beat Corrales
    Stopped Bazan
Beat P4P #9 and champion Stevie Johnston for the title, and defended it in the rematch
    Tortured Lazcano

    He is more than deserving.

Yeah I definitely voted for Cuevas but people sleep on Corrales and Castillo as far as resumes go. Cuevas' best win was arguably Randy Shields, a good fighter, but he isn't even in the hall.

I'm a little surprised that so many are going with Cuevas...not that I necessarily disagree, I just thought it would be a landslide for Corrales on this forum...Good to see some love from fighters of old.
That being said I don't think it should be all one way traffic in this discussion..For many years Pipino was underrated on this board..his savage reign not given the credit it deserved...But I can't help but wonder if the pendulum has swung to other way a little now.
Man for man Corrales fought the better guys...it's going to come to how you choose to award or penalise each guy for how they dealt with their respective opponents..Either way I still think Pipino deserves the nod but I think Corrales should get his dues..Some of his aura was T.V hype but I think he earned that by paying the iron price.

It's hard to say if Castillo will make it into the hall of fame...I think his link to Mayweather and that fight might seal the deal..though it's debatable whether he truly deserves it..I think it's far more about lobbying and politics these days..well probably since it's inception really.

This is correct im glad not everyone is a casual fan, Castillo wanted to separate himself from JCC and he accomplished that well he wont ever be remembered the same but he may have beaten floyd in their 1st fight and his war with Castillo will never be forgotten.

At 135, if you give Castillo credit for the Mayweather win, his resume is better than Chavez' as a lightweight.

Cuevas yes, not Chavez -Rosario, Limon, Ramirez, and Mayweather kind of bump up Chavez a bit not to mention beating the dog **** of Camacho.

I meant Cuevas' resume as a welterweight :patsch And I don't think the Mayweather and Camacho fights were at lightweight.

I was a big fan of Castillo, but his blatant disregard for making weight might go against him when being considered for the HOF.
I wouldn't have a big problem with it,but he'll need a good few ballots and some friends in high places.
He's about as deserving as Ricky Hatton, and while I like Ricky the man,I'm no lover of Ricky the fighter.

I also don't think JC's fights with May and Camacho were at 135. Correct me if I'm wrong.

alot of what ifs to your posts. if Castillo beat Mayweather he would be greater than Chavez. If Corrales would have had the 12 defenses of Cuevas had he had kept winning something like that. Things are what they are.

Cuevas won when he had to and had 12 title defense. Corrales did not. and not close!! Castillo was good and Corrales very good and Casamayor very good. but none great!!!
The Clottey fight is significant!! He lost every round and Casamoyor beat him 2 times out of the 3!!! Some real great fighters went up in weight and beat better fighters than Clottey. Thomas Hearns beat Virgil Hill when Hill had 10 defenses and was undefeated 30 pounds above his weight. That is a Hall of fame fighter!! and Cuevas is too!!!
Casamayor is not really that great. All this overrating because of fan favorites. Cuevas was a terror at WW. Manfredy was a joke!! Corrales was a 50/50 fighter to me. Meaning when he fought other very good fighters he won 50 percent of the time, but when he fought top guys like Floyd he lost easily!!! or when he moved up and fought Clottey at a higher weight he lost easily!!!! That is not Hall of Fame worthy fighter!

Ok, that's great. Cuevas had more title defenses. I never said Corrales was greater but if Cuevas can get in why can't Corrales? He won more championships and beat more elite fighters in his class than Cuevas did.
