I think higher of Duran nowadays and give him more credit for the win in the first Leonard fight, having re-watched the fight since then. Truly one of the best, if not the best, performances on film. I still may favor Whitaker over Duran at LW based on styles, but not with the same confidence I used to have.

I would also favor Whitaker over Duran at lightweight.

Sugar and by a fairly large margin, but I happen to think Sugar was top 3 in terms of ability of all time, regardless of weight class.

    Duran.

IMO he has an overall superior resume, they're roughly equal in terms of skills and ability at their best with an edge to Duran (although he was perhaps not quite so adaptable as SRL), he won handily when both men had no excuses and at Leonard's weight, has superior accomplishments.

Very well argued. I was kind of leaning this way and you have convinced me. Duran w/o doubt and absolutely.

When both were nearest at their prime Duran beat Leonard. P4p he always beats Leonard. He also has the superior resume. Close but clear edge to Roberto.

Are you confusing Walcott with "Jersey" Joe, because there is no way Moore should be above the original Joe Walcott.

It is strange that Sweet Pea left out Pep.

No I am talking about the welterweight champion at the turn of the 20th century. He was great. Even a top 5 all time welter on my list but there is no way in hell he was greater than the Mongoose.

    How is Moore greater?

Walcott, a 5'1'' welterweight battered top heavyweight contender and hall-of-famer Joe Choynski in 7 rounds, and beat most of the better fighters around his weight and up to heavyweight like Young Peter Jackson, welterweight champion James "Rube" Ferns, Lightheavyweight champion George Gardner, Mysterious Billy Smith, Young Corbett, Austin Gibbons, Bobby Dobbs, Jim Judge, etc. He also fought to a draw with Joe Gans and Sam Langford (arguably the greatest fighter ever).

Walcott was the very definition of P4P. As great as Archie was (top 20 IMO) he is not greater than Barbados Joe.

I just noticed perhaps my biggest critique of Sweet Pea's list though, Benny Leonard is not on it.
