Duran has the better win out both, beating a prime Leonard.

Still, if you take away Griffith's 3 wins over Rodriguez and give them to Luis, than Emile's resume becomes considerably less stacked as a big chunk of it is his 3-1 record against Rodriguez.

As outstanding as his resume is, he is 1-2 against Cokes (getting stopped in the 3rd fight), he beat Rondon but also loss to him, and was also stopped by Benvenuti (though he was obviously past it by then).

I don't think wins over Griffith in their first fight, Briscoe (twice), Carter (twice), Benton, Mims, a past his best Akins, Moyer, and Paret (twice) is enough combined with everything else to be placed higher than guys like Ortiz, Arguello, Saddler, etc.

Easily top 40, but IMO #27 is too high.

Was just naming some guys that each man beat off the top of my head, but yeah, Bizzaro doesn't warrant inclusion. Still, it's only one name off the list.

Not neccessarily true, those are just the fights he's most noted for, which is why he is so universally underrated and thought to be Griffith's inferior.

He was stopped by the bigger Benvenuti not only past his prime, but ahead on the cards. Cokes just seemed to have been a bad matchup for Rodriguez, and was an excellent technician in his own right at his best. The loss to Rondon is certainly now worse than a prime Arguello's loss to Fernandez, or a chunk of Saddler's losses to lesser fighters.

    Let's compare:

Rodriguez: Griffith, Cokes, Paret, Akins, Benton, Briscoe, Carter, Mims, Moyer, Giambra, Vijar, Bahama, Logart, Gonsalves, Mundine, Micelli, etc.

Ortiz: Loi, Laguna, Ramos, Brown, Elorde, Lane, Charnley, Torres, Bizzaro, Busso, etc.

Arguello: Olivares, Chacon, Boza-Edwards, Mancini, Watt, Ramirez, Kobayashi, Castillo, Escalera, Limon, Ganigan, Elizondo, Rooney, Legra, etc.

Saddler: Pep, Elorde, Carter, Brown, Famechon, DeMarco, Perez, Collins, etc.

And the No Mas against Duran ..

How can you rank Duran above him ?

I think Salas and Dade on Saddler's resume are similar to Rodriguez' wins over a faded Giambra, Micelli, Gonsalves (who was also past it), and Logart.

Navarette, Hafey, Leonel Hernandez, and Kid Pascualito, and the knockout way past his best over Billy Costello on Arguello's resume are of similar qaulity.

Cisco Andrade, Len Mathews, Arthur Persley on Ortiz' resume of roughly the same quality as well.

And with that, I don't see any real distinction to say that Rodriguez has the best resume.

That aside, I don't think just resume can be taken into account. If so than Holman Williams and Lloyd Marshall should be higher than Arguello, Ortiz, and Saddler and Rodriguez himself. Those three (especially Arguello) were more dominant in their careers than Rodriguez, who aside from when he beat Griffith the one time, was never really the best in any division.

Granted I have seen very, very little of Rodriguez and perhaps more footage would lead me to believe he was an overall better fighter than those three, but as of now I can't place him as high as #27 as you can.

I could continue to name wins on Rodriguez's resume if I wanted as well, though I did forget Navarette for Arguello, very good fighter.

As I just said, the Griffith series really could've gone either way though, and it was because of the Griffith decisions and having an equal counter-part(something none of the others did aside from an aging Pep for Saddler, who's depth of resume and consistency were not on par with Rodriguez) that he could've never been as dominant.

I've yet to see the best of the man on film as well, which is one reason I've taken such in interest in him. I can deal with you rating him lower, most would, but for now I feel comfortable with my rankings, though that may yet change.

He's easily top 40 as I said in a previous post, so it's not all that lower than your ranking, I just think 27 is a bit too high.

The lack of footage makes it rather difficult to evalute how he compares with those three though, as Ortiz, Arguello, and even Saddler (who I have seen not much more of) were all excellent H2H fighters and some of the absolute best I've ever seen. Rodriguez may well have been as impressive (possibly more so) than those three, but as of now I can't comment on how he compares to them.

Your out of your mind.... Leonard would TKO Whitaker.

As for Leonard & Duran - I voted too close to call although I have Duran ONE SPOT above SRL in my top 10 p4p fighters list.

Id take the SRL of the 2nd fight to win a close but clear UD over the Duran of the 1st fight (both were at their absolute peak in these fights IMO, they have never looked better) but he WAS the bigger man.

Duran had way more fights & greater longevity but Leonard beat the better fighters.... there really is no right answer to be honest, nothing is set in stone here.
