Yes, Leonard has better single wins at the ery top but his resume lacks the deepness of Duran´s and the second and third leve wins Duran has. That´s why Duran´s is superior.

Nah. Comfortable Decision win, but not a TKO. Whitaker's jab and workrate would be a better offensive weapon than Benitez, who's steady, methodical pace played right into Leonard's hands. Not to mention the stoppage was questionable over 15 rounds and a matchup between Whitaker and Leonard would be better suited over 12 where both fighters have fought. I'm confident that Pea would fare better than Benitez, winning about 4 of the 12 rounds.

Its very possible that Whitaker goes the distance with Leonard & I certainly wouldnt bet big on a stoppage win for SRL but I wouldnt be suprised to see his power to be too much for Pea, forcing the TKO - a KO however would suprise me.

Id bet big on a straight Leonard victory meaning that as long as he beat Pea, no matter how he beat him, then I win the bet.

The man was built like a tank. Didn't he beat Jack O'Brian too? Who was a very good fighter. He was p4p greatness but not top 10 greatness.

Young Peter Jackson was a very good fighter but he was not great. Mysterious Billy Smith? He had 2 great wins but he was very inconsistent and had a short carrer. Not a great fighter. The only problem with the active great champions 100 years ago is there is more room for a bad night with how ofter they fought. Walcott is top 30 material. I may have a spot for him in the top 20 even, but he is not top 10.

Leonard is top 10 on my list too. :good

I don't think he's neccessarily top 10, but I see more of an argument for his case than for Moore's. Archie had just as many "bad" nights and fought more often than Walcott. What Walcott was able to do against naturally bigger men is downright shocking and as I said he was the definition of P4P, fight anybody, no matter the size. He called out virtually every top heavyweight of his time.

Moore is certainly top 20 guaranteed IMO, Walcott top 15.

Good list (though you typed Leonard instead of Robinson for #1)

I don't have a set one as of now, but it probably would look like this (note: I don't rate fighters that had the basis of their careers before 1900).

    #1. Ray Robinson
    #2. Sam Langford
    #3. Harry Greb
    #4. Henry Armstrong
    #5. Ezzard Charles
    #6. Roberto Duran
    #7. Benny Leonard
    #8. Muhammad Ali
    #9. Willie Pep
    #10. Barney Ross
    #11. Joe Gans
    #12. Joe Walcott
    #13. Mickey Walker
    #14. Ray Leonard
    #15. Charley Burley
    #16. Tony Canzoneri
    #17. Pernell Whitaker
    #18. Carlos Monzon
    #19. Joe Louis
    #20. Archie Moore
    #21. Jimmy Wilde
    #22. Emile Griffith
    #23. Kid Gavilan
    #24. Ike Williams
    #25. Alexis Arguello

Jofre and Tunney are probably next.

So for the thread, I have Duran 8 spots higher on my list than SRL.

I can't see a case for Jofre above Whitaker. Nor Tunney, nor really even Monzon to be frank.

I think Monzon could possibly be argued, but not the other two.

Maybe not Jofre, but Tunney and Monzon definately have better resmues. Pea's is very impressive on film, but he wasn't a very active fighter. Only beat 2 great fighters, quite a few very good fighters but still not good enough with the resmues of Tunney and Monzon.
