    Hearns.

Tyson was great but his resume just doesn't compare to Hearns'.

I like how the guy who made this video puts a special part near the end of the video about the Hagler fight. Great video.

I started the thread but I didn't want to give my opinion at the beginning. I think Hearns was greater. As a fan of Pernell Whitaker I appreciate a man like Hearns who was a great boxer, and he could punch. Thomas Hearns was more versatile than Tyson and had greater wins ands fights. Mike was more popular probably in the mainstream press, but Hearns is an iconic great.

Hearns fought & beat better opposition than tyson. His skills were always overshadowed by the Leonard limelight.

Then Duran beat the crap out of Barkley. Barkley knocks Hearns out. Duran trained for about 2 weeks for that fight, he had been partying, took that fight for the money only, a lightweight, started at feather. Duran goes 15 with Hagler, very close fight. Hagler knocks Hearns out. Hearns was a great fighter, warrior though, no doubt. Tyson, in his prime was awesome, but after Don King got hold of him, he lost it all. If Tyson had kept in shame, if Cus, Jacobs had not died, had Tyson stayed with Kevin Rooney, things would have been different.

Duran used that excuse with Benitez and Leonard and Hearns that he did not train. If a fighter is great, wouldn't knowing the strengths of his opponents and training to beat them be a quality which makes Duran greater? If he could not do this, is he really as great as someone like Leonard who trained hard and really did beat all the greats he fought? Duran did not. And the coincidence in all of those fights is they were the greatest opponents Duran ever fought and the most complete losses he ever had, and the only thing he says is he was not in shape for Benitez,Hearns or Leonard. So then he fights lesser fighters and he trains? See how utterly ridiculous the excuses are? I do not buy it and never did. If a fighter Duran beat made excuses like that no one would listen. Example, Duran beat Davey Moore who had dental surgery days before he fought Roberto. Davey Moore had 11 fights also, yet people somehow think it was a great win for Roberto. Fact is that Tommy Hearns knocked out a fellow champion at 154 who had never been knocked out. There are no excuses. Hearns deserves respect and I think basically people deep down know that Tommy Hearns demolished a great fighter. That is why that knockout clip on youtube is the most popular in boxing history. Tommy outclassed and outsped Duran to unify (just not getting credit because the WBA took away Duran's title right before the fight)Tommy also outsped Cueves and stopped him who was champ- and Virgil HIll and Wilfred Benitez to win titles from all of them. Duran does not need an excuse. There was no way he could have beaten Thomas Hearns. No matter which excuse he uses.

Hearns had the better wins against tougher opposition than Tyson did, so him.
