The thread about Vitalis chin got me thinking.

Who would you say was the greater fighter, in terms of accomplishments etc.

Who would you rank higher on an ATG list?

    Thoughts and discussions people.

    :think

Now how did i guess that!

its an interesting question, both guys are considered greats in their division and would give anyone problems

One retired undefeated and the other can sort of claim to being undefeated, (kind of), at least by his fans.

I was hoping for a bit more of a discussion as to why people think one is greater than the other? better resume, better H2H etc?

    Joe without doubt.

Vitali was blown out when he faced an ATG past his best. Calzaghe wasn't.

You could argue that Calzaghe himself didnt exactly impress with an SD over Hopkins

but i guess a win is better than a TKO

Slappy's win over B-Hop is better than ANYTHING Vitali has done and that is FACT!

    Interesting points there BE.

I assume you're referring to Hopkins and Jones, which ones great and which ones very good if you dont mind me asking?

To be fair, it's almost impossible to look impressive against Hopkins unless you're prime RJJ.

Both good champions but neither fought all the fights they could or should have to be ranked as high as they could have been among the pantheon of historical greats. Vitali mostly due to a lack of talent in the heavyweight division, Zaggers because of the usual belt and promoter driven politics.

Vitali probably fought bigger fights during his career, but he didn't actually beat a lot of amazing fighters, whilst Zaggers didn't take the big fights until late but has a few very good names on his record: Kessler, Hopkins, Jones Jr. even though the last two were well past their best.

Joe didn't want to fight Lacy , but he did.

Vitali didn't want to fight Rahman and he didn't.
