Easy answer, Joe could of been greater, I think after the Hopkins fight he could of had a good 3 year run after that, with some real name fights ahead. I think he beat Hopkins 10 out 12 rounds, but still a rematch should of happened, Hopkins was considered one of the greats of the day. for that this is a easy choice, Vitali, he fought into his 40's, took a lot of shots, was never down in his career an lost only a handful of rounds in his life, also he was never down on the score cards. There is a lot things you can say about vitali, but one in for certain, he forced lewis to retire. It is vitali, an it is not even close. An I am a huge joe fan, but he never went to that next level, an keep in mind HBO wanted him to, meaning lots of money in front of him.
I like Vitali better, but Slappy has the better accomplishments. Vitali's resume is really weak. So weak that it's highlight is a loss where his face was viciously torn open. Slappy's got a win over the Legend, Bernard Hopkins (though I hate that judges gave Joe rounds for inneffective aggression).
Vitali. Calzaghe is better than many seem to think, but Vitali would have dominated this HW era if not for his brother.
I swear "Byrd schooled Vitali" is to Americans what "Slappy Joe Cal: TBE" is to the British/Super Hans.:bart And its clearly Vitali..
to be fair, calzaghe was only the man for a few minutes after uhis partial unification - he had no intention of enforcing unification and ran from it. Vitali made multiple defences of one of the big three titles, something Joe did not have the ability to do.
Yeah, he did. But this thread ain't about him. I agree there as well. Vitaly Klischko on the other hand was at least in every of his fight competitive and non of his official victories are ever doubted.
Irrelevant. Chris Byrd isn't even top 5 of his best opponents (at the time of their fight was he perhaps comparable with Kirk Johnson later).
Chris Byrd defeated David Tua, Evander Holyfield and Vitali Klitschko. Not sure which one of Vitalis opponents who are more accomplished.
or perhaps in spite of his brother. if vitalui had fought wlad, the opinion pervading seems to be that vitali would hav taken wlads titles. and thus have fully unified, as oppose to calzaghe spartial unification.
Vitalis best win is against Sam Peter and that's after the harder hitting brother had put the hurt on Sam. He never beat any top dogs. Calzaghe did those times he felt it was worth a try.
you mean Kessler alone. I am not sure one good defence equates to several defences of a top three title. perhaps.
