Regulars here have seen me write on more than one occassion that Jack Dempsey proved more in his Sharkey and second Tunney fights to me than any of his prime victories.

Big George proved more to me in his loss to Holyfield at 42 than in any of his victories ...

Jersey Joe as well v.s. Rocky but please let's not turn this into ANOTHER Rocky thread ...

Any fighters prove themselves to you through post prime performances or defeats ... ?

Michael Carbajal vs Jorge Arce was an incredible way to go out for Carbajal. That is how every professional fighter should finish their career.

Holyfield's defeats by Bowe. Show those fights to anyone and they'll know all about what made Holyfield a great fighter.

Wilfredo Gomez proved once again in this fight that he wasn't just a frontrunner type of ko monster..he showed he had quality..like he did by gutting it out for 15 with Rocky Lockridge..even though I think Lockridge won...Gomez was in extreme pain from an errant larynyx shot from Rocky..and went the full 15 with him for that disputed win & the title.

If you asked me this was one of his less subtle performances. He goes to war and rarely implements his fantastic movement and boxing ability. Have you seen his face by the end of it?

    Maybe I'm mis-understanding your point:good
