It's time we put Calzaghe in a more fair matchup, other than comparing his legacy to the likes of Pacquiao, Mayweather, and De La Hoya.

That's not fair, that's just a way to see Calzaghe lose.

As of now, who would be ranked higher all-time?

Castillo has 9 losses (6 KOs). Calzaghe is undefeated. 'Nuff said.

    :patsch:patsch:patsch

Sugar Ray Robinson has 19 loses(1 via KO)

Duran has 16 loses (4 via KO)

You also forgot to mention that besides above average Kessler, hyped Lacy and over the hill (but still could have won that fight) Hopkins he has fought no one.

    That proves nothing.

Calzaghe has no defeats. Manny Pacquiao has 3.

Vitali Klitschko has 2 defeats. Oscar De La Hoya has 5.

Ricky Hatton has 1 defeat. Felix Trinidad has 3.

I am a critic of Calzaghe and often called a "hater" (laughable), but (like I said on the thread asking who had the better legacy of Tarver and Calzaghe) the answer here is Joe Calzaghe. Clearly.

For anyone who says Castillo: hit boxrec and check out Castillo's career before Mayweather. Other than Johnston, the standard is shocking. Just shocking. Especially his last couple of fights before Floyd.

He held the WBC lightweight title twice, and that's it for his achievements. Stopped by Corrales and Hatton. And that's that.

I believe he did win the 1st Mayweather fight. He is the only person to get the better of PBF over 12 rounds. That was special, I recognize that. However, that isn't enough to say he is greater than Calzaghe. He didn't actually get the decision.

Castillo was a good lightweight, but he is so overrated on these pages. He does not deserve to be rated anywhere near as highly as his contemporaries Barrera and Morales. He was not great by any stretch of the imagination.

    The answer is Calzaghe.

    Castillo has fought Chico x 2 (won 1), Mayweather X 2 (won 1), Julio Diaz W, Joel Casamayor W, Stevie Johnston X 2 (won 1 tied 1)

    All in their prime!

    Great legacy...

Jose Luis Castillo gave fight fans one of the best fights of all time (that honestly just about seals it).

And he also had close fights w/ one of the best fighters in the past 20 years (PBF)

No, "nuff" is never said by such a reductive comparison.

By your shitty logic, Calzaghe is also greater than Roy Jones Jr, Pernell Whitaker, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Willie Pep, Harry Greb, Sam Langford, and countless others.....

I agree that Calzaghe is greater, but your reasoning is garbage.

Castillo had to really work his way up to the title and big fights. It's often hard for fighters, especially Mexican fighters who turn pro when they're basically kids (a la Margarito), to get their opportunites and they're facing much more experienced professionals.

His achievements are more about WHOM he fought. A who's who of the division.

Win and draw against Stevie Johnston
    Win over Cesar Bazan
Close loss to Floyd Mayweather, the toughest bout of Floyd's career
    Win over Juan Lazcano
    Win over Joel Casamayor
Win (non-title bout) over Diego Corrales as well as a loss
    Win over Julio Diaz

He is the most accomplished lightweight since Pernell Whitaker.

By your logic then JLR beat Whitaker.
Evander really fought to a draw with Lenox.
JCC fought to a draw with Whitaker.
    Santa Cruz lost to Casamayor.

Like the Manny Pac legacy vs Calzaghe one this is an easy answer except this time it's Calzaghe as the correct answer.

Anyone who says otherwise is deluded or a hater.
