I agree, Salvador Sanchez is a massive case of what might have been as far as accomplishments go.

It's frightening to think about what he could have achieved, had he not been killed aged 23. And the fact that Sal was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991 is a mighty testament to what he was actually able to achieve in a short space of time in order to warrant his induction.

The Marquez fans are going full ****** in this thread. This is a nice thread for showing how little they know about anything, really.

Tough to say convincingly though. Gomez was a small FW. And Nelson wasn't exactly a big FW either, though he was tough and well conditioned.

Pacquiao was extremely physical at 126 pounds. Almost shockingly so at that weight class. Sanchez looks a little frail and weak compared to Pacquiao.

Not counting Sanchez out, but Pacquiao's style was hard to deal with at 126. Marquez had an iron chin, great defensive skills. Which Sanchez has as well. But Marquez was also extremely strong physically. And I'm not sure how Sanchez could have dealt with the brutality of a 126 Pac.

I'd argue that Sanchez never beat a FW as good as a prime MAB, EM or Pac. Because Gomez at 126 is not as good as they guys were at 126. And neither was Nelson.

nelson held the super featherweight lineal title and went the distance with whitaker at lightweight, so he wasnt a small featherweight.

He was only 5'4" and Whitaker very rarely scored KO's in world title fights. He seemed fairly small to me. Compared to a guy like Marquez or Pacquiao he seems small.

Yes, he is a legend I'm his twenties. If not for his untimely death, I really would love to see how he square with arguello. What a superfight would that be.

I'd also say that a prime Pacquiao beats Gomez and especially Nelson with greater ease than Sanchez did. I know I get on Marquez here a lot, but the guy is no pushover.

Sanchez was dead at 23 and already a phenom. I just watched and scored the Freddie Norwood vs JMM fight and even though JMM should have won 7-5 the 26 year old guy that struggled against Freddie Norwood would have been smashed by a 23 year old Sanchez.

He might have been thinking of Olivares, Zarate, Saldivar, or Canto too. Mexico rolls deep.

At super bantam with Gomez and feather with Nelson, I'm not so sure tinman.
I know PAC is the greater fighter overall, but at those respective weight it's not a given.

Against both at 126 I favor Pac with ease. Gomez is too small at 126. And Nelson is a come forward pressure fighter which is stylistically heaven for Pacquiao.

Yes, at 126 Gomez was not at his best, he was a monster at 122 and he could have given PAC hell there. I disagree with Nelson at 126, the Professor was a superb technician and Pac was not as developed technically at that stage. It would have been a tough fight for both.

gomez at super bantam was tyson and ggg rolled into 1. he was 32-0-1 with 32 ko's, he only had a decision in his pro debut. pac had a decision win at that weight with agapito sanchez where 1 judge had it even and another had pac by 1 point.
