Holmes was a complete fighter. Lennox had that right hand. I think Holmes had a certain complete skill level which Lennox did not. Lennox was great, but I don't think on the level of Larry.

One thing I don't understand is that Holmes is never slated for losing to the light heavyweight champion of his time, whereas guys like Dempsey and Louis are ridiculed for their performance against the former.

In terms of resume it's clear for me that Lewis is superior. I'm not saying it's a complete blowout, but Holmes has far to many names on his resume with 10,12,15,16 fights, one of which he went life and death with. Yes Witherspoon was a good fighter, but it's not like he was facing a very green ATG in the ring that night. Also if you look at the resumes of people Holmes beat, you can't find any wins over great fighters while he was at the top of the tree. He didn't fight the best around at the time and Lennox did (eventually) however Lennox was clearly ducked by Bowe and Tyson, Holmes could have done something make fights with the better fighters he avoided.

I don't think there's a better win than Klitschko on Holmes CV.

i think that lewis is greater in legacy and h2h too. lennox lewis would have beaten every rival of larry holmes... a past prime ken norton, berbick, leon and michael spinks, marvis frazier, mike weaver, evangelista, james smith... he would have beaten cooney and shavers too.lewis would have beaten spoon much more clearly than holmes did , maybe even stopping him late. and h2h lewis would beat holmes, he was bigger, stronger, more athletic, he did hit much harder, and lewis could be knocked out by big punchers, not by hitting power like larry´s. i can see lewis even stopping him, spoon did hurt larry seriously, lewis was more aggressive than spoon, he was harder puncher and stronger, with longer reach, lewis could brawl, he could box... lewis was as versatile as holmes but bigger and stronger

Watch him when he was young, he was very fast.

    And your point is??

most people, including fighters, gain weight and slow down as they age.

my point is that you can´t make a hybrid of the heavy lewis with the fast lewis... the young lewis was faster but smaller and at this time he was not proved himself , and the heavier lewis was stronger but much more slow and he had much more experience and talent too

I value Senya but to call Ken Norton a journeyman is a lack of respect to the man.

Holmes, for one reason: Lewis got one shot kayoed by Rahman and McCall, two average heavyweights. Yeah, the shots were huge, but so were the ones Larry took vs Shavers and Snipes. Larry recovered, Lewis did not.

Sonny's jab...You could make the argument that Norton beat Ali 3 times....or twice with one draw.

My two fav heavyweights of all-time. Holmes was a better all round boxer. And, he had a better jab as well. Lewis could be guilty of pawing with the jab. Holmes never pawed with the jab.

I think Holmes would have beaten Lewis on points.
